Caught Celeste and Primitive Man in Raleigh last night. The guys in Celeste, being french, were annoyed that the lovely little bar didn't have wine. They turned off all the lights and wore red headlamps and even put a blanket over the ATM due to the light, but they were tight and created a good atmosphere. They looked like the borg which is certainly unique I guess: Then Primitive Man came on and holy gently caress that's the heaviest show I've ever been to, the drummer is out of his mind. My ears hurt today despite sennheiser plugs. Absolutely crushing.

It's probably the best one since blessed black wings. That grunge/stoner track in the middle of the album feels a bit out of place though.

I saw Eyehategod last night and they were pretty good, but they must be the most white-trashy metal band I've seen, which kind of turned me off the show. Mike Williams in particular looks and sounds like he just wandered out of a trailer park.

Oh man. This really only goes out to the Australian Metalheads here, but it's bullshit enough that I think most people would find it interesting. The one decent Metal festival we get here in Australia is Soundwave. It's mostly commercial stuff with a few nuggets of gold buried in it every year. It's fairly respectable and usually it's run fairly well. Soundwave itself is also a bit of a promotional company. A lot of the bands that appear at Soundwave do "Sidewaves" and a lot of the time, when they come out on their own tour it's under the Soundwave Touring banner. This year, AJ Maddah (the guy in charge of Soundwave) has started this thing called the "Soundwave Society" Members of this "Society" get access to presales, competitions, merchandise and other bonuses like meet and greets for whatever band Soundwave Touring brings out. To join the Soundwave Society, all you need to do is pay a yearly fee of $200. So fans who aren't a member of this "society" miss out on some pretty cool things unless they pay the promoter $200 bucks a year. What an absolute load of poo poo.

Goatwhore/Ringworm/Black Breath/Theories was pretty rad. I don't know how I slept on Goatwhore for all these years considering I love Acid Bath and Ben Falgoust is an awesome vocalist in Soilent Green (is Soilent Green ever doing another album??? It's been seven years and they're still listed as "active" on M-A). Also didn't realize dudes still wore spiked knee-high boots. Ben at one point commented on the huge space in the audience saying "I feel like I'm at some metalcore show" and in my head I was like " You just had an OG metalcore band play before you" but then he said "Come on up, this isn't Whitechapel" which was pretty funny. That's my dumb stage banter story. Henchman of Santa fucked around with this message at 17:17 on Jun 28, 2015 |

Goatwhore also has shirts that say "Less White Chapel More Haunting The Chapel" I don't know if I'd expect another Soilent Green album any time soon. Crowbar, Goatwhore, and Eyehategod have all become #1, full-time priorities for each of the guys.

It was all recorded in the band's non-airconditioned rehearsel room over five fays in the middle of an unexpectedly hot summer, and you can see the drummer getting more and more frantic through the sessions. He starts out looking reasonably collected, with combed-back hair and he seems pretty focused. By the end, he's a sweaty mess with hair in his face, looking like a madman. Basically from this, to this.
