Damnit Steve, you know I'm a sucker for Back to the Future references.
The decent part about expert mode is all players get boss loot, unless non-expert has that now too.

Although we're having a wierd issue with the Eye of Cthulu not dropping anything. We think it might be because we're fighting the boss with Bee weapons and the Bees finish it off. The chat doesn't mention us defeating the eye either :/. I hope that's not the case since the Bee weapons are cool as poo poo.

Were old worlds purged at some point? Booted this back up after a couple of years and my world was gone.

Anyway since I'm starting new again I've got a few questions.

- Are invasion events still almost impossible to solo(and get to the end)?
- Does the developer still like to nerf anything remotely powerful/popular?
- What is the earliest hook, wings, and mount you can get?

-Invasion events were never almost impossible to solo, just took a lot more work and lots of traps
-It's only been 2 days, give it time.
-Depends on your luck. Though Wings it's definitely Leaf.

I am not an egghead. I am well-read.
Earliest grapple is either from getting a hook from skeletons or piranhas, or getting together 20 of a single kind of gem to make a gem grappling hook.

Earliest mount is either getting lucky in killing King Slime, or doing the fishing kid's daily quest five times for the bunny mount.

Earliest wings would be in early Hardmode, from killing the wyverns up high and combining his soul with light souls and harpy feathers.

I don't believe worlds have been purged. I still have mine from a couple years ago, dunno if you lost yours with a new computer or if they were not properly uploaded to the cloud or you uninstalled at some point and reinstalled.

-No, with a proper set-up (the tower with lava pits method) most invasion events aren't horrifically difficult. There are more enemies now that can fly through blocks since they've added mini-bosses, but those are mostly hardmode, and with the right equipment (i.e. lifesteal weapons) and knowing their patterns (e.g. martian ufo's giant laser doesn't shoot through blocks so taking cover works well) you should be fine.

-Yes, a lot of stuff from 1.2 got nerfed. Since 1.3 is new I assume it's a matter of time before someone discovers some new broken set or unintended side-effect that gets fixed. To be fair though, Redigit does realize sometimes he goes too far and will tone down the nerf and in some cases he'll even buff other items he thinks are too weak.

-The earliest mount is based on luck or the route you go. The fastest would be to make an Expert World, go in with a Slime Crown, summon King Slime, and beat him to get a treasure bag. You'll likely get the Slime Mount from it. Otherwise you could get a Turtle Mount from a Golden Crate (super rare though) at any point by fishing, or the Bunny Mount from the Angler for completing 5 quests for him. As for Hooks you could also get a Slime Hook from Expert mode King Slime as a treasure bag reward, but if you're playing legit and starting fresh you can make a Topaz/Amethyst Hook if you just find 15 Topaz/Amethyst gems and craft them together. You can't get any wings in a straight playthrough until Hardmode. The Rocket Boots are the closest you'll get before then.

Stardust Dragon is ridiculously fun. I've switched from mage to Spooky Wood gear even after getting full Nebula Gear because it's so ridiculous. at minion capacity 7 it will eat even martian saucer in seconds, and will just wipe out hordes of regular monsters. If you're just getting to the Lunar Event my recommendation is to do the Stardust one first to get a Dragon staff to make the rest much easier.

So I'm really not having fun with the new boss grind: I killed the expert standard and mechanical bosses fine, but expert plantera and fishron, not to mention normal lunatic cultist are absolutely kicking my rear end- it feels like everything kills me in a few hits, and I don't think I'm intended to gravity potion my way through every single boss. :(

How did you kill mechanical skeletron? He's like pin point accurate with his lasers now. I'm using full shroomite armor and a tsunami bow and barely knocked off 3k of his health. All my accessories have defense on then and he just tears me apart...

My group is having this issue too. I can't nail down what's causing it, though. We've fought it with different people hosting, while intentionally not using weapons like summon pets or weapons that inflict DoTs, etc. It just despawns right before it dies every time. This happens with both naturally occurring eyes and spawned ones. I beat the eye fine single player, and we also spawned King Slime and beat it as normal too and got lootbags, complete with a defeated message.

The Lava Charm is actually a thing that is in the game, right? I have 180 hours in this game thus far and have yet to see one. The wiki says it's in cavern gold chests; is that accurate? I know it's supposed to be ultra-rare but I've probably opened 500 gold chests by now for gently caress's sake

Definitely not. If you want to up the challenge and you've already pretty much cleared hell out then killing Wall of Flesh and proceeding through normal world hardmode would be the next thing.

I'm having the exact same problem as you. I started a fresh character and fresh world on Expert and I need a lava charm just so I can make an arena to fight WoF in because hellbats won't stop harrassing me.

I've solo'd expert up until WoF since my internet has been spotty but I can't tell if I'm enjoying it. The slowed down progression is interesting and I've actually had to use every potion at my disposal. At the same time bosses do so much damage I've had to use singleplayer autopause cheese, moving the nurse to the new boss arena, and slime mount bounce to kill most of the bosses.

The expert items I've gotten range from insanely good (royal gel, worm scarf) to "good if you fought the boss at the appropriate point of progression" (everything else besides those two)

Expert mode would be really fun if they got rid of the inflated health and damage but kept everything else.

Also the npcs can hold their own even in expert mode, no one has died during goblin or blood moon and my base is very unsecured because of my laziness.

Okay, apparently if you have the armor-piercing shark tooth necklace equipped, that makes Eye of Cthulhu bug out for some reason. Every time we fought it we had them equipped and it despawned, and twice in a row we fought it and got loot as normal.

I've got two lava charms right now, so I know they exist. What I need are water walking boots and an anklet of the wind, so I can get my frostspark and lava wader boots. I really wish I hadn't lost my old character with my corrupted Windows install. Getting all the basic QOL items all over again is such a pain. :argh: Ankh Shield!

I love all the little improvements, though. Slime Saddle is great now that it has a dedicated slot and I can use weapons while riding. Not having to equip my GPS is a great thing, too.

If you aren't on the same computer then you will have to get the world from the old computer. Save files are kept in users/your name/my documents/my games/terraria, as opposed to being kept in a sane place like with the program files for the game.

That actually is the sane place. Dumping user data in the program directory has been deprecated for something like 13 years now and has required admin privileges to access since Windows 7.

I'm having a problem. How do you farm fireblossom in 1.3? In 1.2 you just partially submerged the plants in lava and they would bloom and you could harvest them. In 1.3, it's breaking the fireblossom off and not giving me seeds. I used to run around the nether making a 1x1 enclosure for mature fireblossom plants and getting the plants+seeds. Doesn't work anymore.

According to the Wiki they changed Fireblossom blooms. Instead of needing lava they bloom from 3:45 pm to 7:30 pm.

It should work fine, but for whatever reason the slot disappears if you remove the item directly, expert mode or not. So long as you always drop a new accessory on top of your 6th slot one it will never go away.

Nah, it just doesn't show up at all on normal worlds if you don't have an item in it. It will still pop back up empty if you go back to an expert world.

e: Wow, so if you put a social accessory into the sixth slot and go back a normal world the accessory won't display on the character. Normal mode just will not let you do anything with the slot.

It can be a problem in hardmode, where spread is faster and goes through more materials than early game.

It used to spread a lot more quickly, and some enemies had projectile attacks that could end up spreading it as well. The Cleniminator wasn't a thing yet, either. The spread got tuned down quite a bit, and defeating some of the hard mode bosses slows it down to be almost nothing. If there is some particular area of the map next to the biomes that you really are worried about you can isolate it, but it isn't usually an issue for me either.
