Looks like a lot of people had some good arguments about maybe not moving to Steam, THEN taking a break. Steam release moved to 2016

It was some good arguments, I think the most pressing one was that new players who don't know tynan would be up in arms that the developer hosed off right after launch, and the benefits of steam release are very few compared to the existing system.

Taeke posted:I'm not worried at all. For one thing, having a stable build that won't be updated for say, 6 months, allows the modders to really go hogwild. They'll have the time to really create cool things with the knowledge they won't have to spend time keeping up with the regular updates. This will also allow modders to work together, build on eachother's stuff, etc more. Except Ark is at best a fun time waster that gets old fast. No one will be speaking about it or playing it in 6 months.

Dang you're missing out, there are some really awesome UI mods that don't change gameplay or balance in the slightest, they just make the game work a lot better. EdB Interface (shows colonist icons on the top of the screen among various other things) https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=5258.0 Pawn State Icons (shows various icons over colonists that illustrate things they're experiencing e.g. "I'm cold" "I'm hot" "I'm sad") https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=9163.0

Yeah And armor for animals, ridable animals, animals that can haul from faraway stockpiles, animals that plough the fields etc etc I have not taken any consideration to the amount of work requierd for this to happen, but i trust that Tynan will do it before he takes his much needed vacation

Tsyni posted:Now we need baby animals and animal breeding. July 7 You can sell your tame animals. Appropriate tame female animals are milkable and your colonists will periodically milk them to yield milk, a raw food resource. Female animals can be pregnant and give birth. Male animals sometimes approach nearby female animals and mate with them. This can make them pregnant.

I picked this up today and its pretty cool so far. It seems like you can really hose yourself if you don't use your starting steel wisely. I had no idea it wasn't easily mineable.

Rimworld is an absolutely wonderful game, and it's still growing. Enjoy e: From yesterday's change log: quote:- Pawns have life stages through which they progress (baby, juvenile, adult). They can only reproduce in some stages. It looks like Baby Rancher will eventually be a thing holy loving poo poo! Flesh Forge fucked around with this message at 03:41 on Jul 10, 2015 |

Check the end of the thread for it, a third party recompiled it and released it separate from the mod author. https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=9163.150

I wonder if he'll drastically tweak the timescale or just be handwavy about how soon pawns and animals change stages. I'd imagine some tiny percent of games go to a point where you could reasonably raise a kid to a functional adult.
|
# ? Jul 10, 2015 18:41 |
|
Well if you define "functional" as "good in sandwiches"
|
# ? Jul 10, 2015 19:17 |

There is not way in hell it will take 18 years or to make an adult. It would be pretty much pointless like that.
|
# ? Jul 10, 2015 19:36 |
|
In some of the fluff you see in character profiles and such, I think it mentions flash cloning. You could easily justify having kids grow up fast by buying some of that tech off a merchant or something, and rather than cloning them just speed up their aging.

Another tidbit from Tynan's work log: "Refactored pawn graphics to use GraphicDatas." Sounds like he'll be integrating Pawn State Icons, or adding a similar function, which is great.

Let's see what Tynan's doing toda- "Added amniotic fluid spray to birth." "Refactored filth to use ‘cluster’ graphic with defined color. Blood, pod slime, vomit, and amniotic fluid can now share graphical assets."
