After years and years of waiting, nerds around the world have had their prayers answered. We thought we'd see the big guy back just after Freddy vs Jason came out. But that fell through. We got a short little cameo after the credits of the remake, and we thought we'd have to live with that.

And now, Ash is back baby.

This Halloween, Bruce "Goddamned" Campbell returns to the role that made him a cult phenomenon with Ash Vs Evil Dead on Starz. Billed as a "horror sitcom" it will have 10 thirty minute episodes. And don't worry about some hack taking over the property because Sam Raimi himself is helming it along with Evil Dead producer Rob Tapert (and Campbell himself, of course). In addition, Starz isn't skimping on the gore, with enough blood in the trailer to make the Red Wedding weep with envy.

Joining Bruce Campbell in this go-round with Necronomicon Ex Mortis will be Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, Jill Marie Jones, and Lucy Lawless. Yes, that Lucy Lawless. The first two will be coworkers of Ash at the Value Stop (hopefully we find out why it's not an S-Mart), Jones will be a Michigan State Trooper, and Lawless is "Ruby", a mysterious woman who is hunting down the cause of the Deadites, and seems to think Ashley J. Williams is the source.

Doubtlessly other Raimi/Campbell collaborators will show up in minor "Shemp" roles (and if you don't know what a "Shemp" is, go read If Chins Could Kill), but as of now, IMDB has nothing beyond the main cast.

I really don't know what else to say at this point. Oh wait, of course I do.

Groovy.

Watching the trailer has really made me hope for a faux-biopic about Mitt Romney starring Bruce Campbell.

Seriously? Did you see the same trailer I did? This looks like a cheap cash-in on nerd nostalgia that --- sorry, I can't finish this, I'm just trying to de-hype myself because I'm so excited for this show after seeing the trailer that I can barely stand to wait until Halloween to see it. I'm probably going to watch that trailer a half dozen more times before then because it's everything I wanted from this show.

And an Evil Dead marathon.

I didn't really have high expectations for this but that trailer was fantastic. I went from doubting the show would ever actually air to super hyped. It looks like they might've got the tone right, the only worrying thing is the amount of people in the trailer who aren't Bruce Campbell.

There is no way S-Mart doesn't appear in the show. They probably just didn't want to give it away in the trailer.

So loving pumped for this, I didn't even know it was being made until this thread was posted.

I've known it was in the works for awhile but wasn't going to get my hopes up too much after the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash debacle. But then that trailer dropped last night and all my worries floated away.

Hello, me! After so many mediocre cash-ins and false starts (Hello, my name is Bruce) I thought there was no more magic there left to recapture, and it was all best left in the past, yet another relic that didn't survive into the new millennium intact.

This trailer looks good, I just have a few issues:

1.- I'm frankly tired of aging action guys getting joked on about being old. Reading Bruce's book and stuff it's very clear that both he and Raimi think Ash is a loser, but Bruce is now playing it very wink-wink, and I don't know how I feel about that.
2.- Half hour episodes.

Still, I'm in. Excellent trailer.

E: I also wasn't sold on Ash having so many sidekicks, but I guess he needs someone to bounce lines off.

I actually think it's better the series is sticking to "Ash is a loser," it would be way too easy to pander to teenage nostalgia and make him a badass instead of a half-wit great at both stumbling into deadite horrors and then killing them.

At least as far back as Duke Nukem 3D Campbell was expressing that view of Ash is only fun if played for laughs.

Also I think having more folks lets you play off that Ash is getting older. I mean I view the aging thing at least in what we've seen as the trailer less the Expendables/Die Hard route of every action franchise still desperate to show boomers they're still virile and better than young bucks, with the occasional glib one liner about being older and much more of a passing the torch while still giving us Bruce.
I mean we see the dude putting on a girdle.

If he's not in the first shot of the pilot as an irate customer I'm going to be very disappointed. Also later in the episode he will be the store manager after a costume and wig change, the finally a deadite in the third act.

<----- This is me irl after seeing the trailer and watching the comiccon roundtable. Only it's more of a giddy laughter than a maniacal one.

Although I would say I agree with fistborn that I'm expecting the "I'm old now" jokes to become a little tired. The girdle seemed like a delightfully Ash thing to do, but the dentures I think are a little much. I mean the character must have been in his early-to-mid 20's when the original trilogy happened, so he should only be 50-to-55 or so during this series. I guess people get those at that age sometimes but it seems a little forced. It's a very, very minor gripe though and it doesn't hurt anything at all, least of which my enthusiasm for Halloween night this year.

Anyone else hoping they take a slightly darker look at how Ash has been doing the past 30 years? Watching your best friends and sister get torn to shreds in front of you (and some by your own hand gauntlet) has got to cause some serious PTSD and it's not like the police are going to take you at face value when you try to explain how it happened. Maybe that's why Ash is so destitute? Scott, Linda and Shelley's family civil-cased him into the trailer park?

Fuuuuck now I'm gonna have to order Starz.
