run lola run owns, back when I wanted to seem cool I'd tell people it was my favorite movie ("oh you haven't heard of it? heh.").

I have before expressed my affection for cloud atlas.

I know I only just watched it last week but fury road might have been a movie I've been spending a lifetime waiting to see

and idk, chasing amy is problematic as get-out but it awoke something in my adolescent sexuality and I will always appreciate it for that, even if ben affleck is kind of a douche both irl and in the film.

Killer clowns is great. Surf Nazis had a great premise but too much surfing. Anaconda is p great.

I really enjoyed the second tomatoes to the first. Both are amazing movies. I think part of my love for the second was the barfight in the middle of the movies and the 80s babes throughout. Also george freaking clooney

I am falling into the trap of TT's condescending schtick.

MMM Whatchya Say posted:

Please appreciate that pig and I are refusing to make a list to you for similar yet entirely separate ideological reasons

This is not surprising because it is way more vague and open ended than asking for favorites. Is the "best" supposed to reflect the quality we find most important (which is what TT is actually asking)? A film could be the most influential on other films, socially influential, well shot, directed, edited and acted, or even just make the most money since that is the ultimate goal of the industry, and be considered the "best". I am not sure I could pick one or even a film that encapsulated all of those well and think it was the best. I even appreciate CPig's take that the quality that makes films be the best are the ones that resonate most with him.

imho you have to be very pretentious to call a movie you do not actually like the best movie

How are you qualified to say a movie you do not like is good? You are only saying it is good because some smug critics say it is good. If you do not like a movie then you should consider that movie bad.

If you like a movie more than another movie you should consider that a better movie.

It is one thing to say "I understand why people find this movie good but I do not like it" but it is absolutely ridiculous to expect someone to include a movie they do not like in their top 5 of best movies.

I am not saying it is the best but as a counterexample that popped in my mind, something like Schindler's List might be a film that would be called hard to like, or even one you might not want to see more than once, but still be a great film. I think that might depend upon how the film is eliciting the response, where even evoking boredom might be intentional and reflect positively on the film.

There's plenty of media that I think is Great but isn't something I actively enjoy and also plenty of media that I think is Good but enjoy experiencing regularly. I wouldn't want to watch Bicycle Thieves every month or even every year, but I can't say the same thing about Major Lazer featuring Academy Award Winner J.K. Simmons. One of these is better than the other.

I don't know what you're saying but I was serious in my original post listing my 5 movies. Those are my favorite movies, you can say they're bad but that doesn't affect the enjoyment I get out of them.

I also for some reason have a general dislike of most popular things and I think it stems only from the fact that they're popular.

Lawrence of Arabia
My Neighbor Totoro

Guardians of the Galaxy
