Yeah the encounters are with adult pandas. You have to book in advance and they only do small groups, for a short period. The Wellington Zoo doesn't just do pandas though, they also arrange encounters with cheetahs, lions, giraffes, meerkats, and lemurs. You get to actually pet the cheetah but it looks like you have to interact with the lion through a cage. http://www.wellingtonzoo.com/net/experience/encounter.aspx

The color grows in gradually over about 9 months. They already have stripes early on though.
