There are more than a few on eBay but they're at the point where they're commanding a pretty good price. Sadly it seems to be the electronics. They fail stuck in the "up" position. I was tempted to just find a 3 way switch and solder it in but the driver's side switch has a large-ish coil inside it so I didn't want to risk burning something out with an improper load or whatever.

Ha, I have a can of Caig Deoxit that I tried. It didn't work but that's not surprising since the failure mode means one side is making too much contact, not too little. On the upside I figured out my stereo problems were largely due to bare wires not being adequately held by the screw terminals. A few cheap crimp on spades/forks later we are golden. I shoukd have known that since most of my job involves ensuring quality electrical connections but welp

I remembered some thread here years about a guy with a CRX or Civic that was putting a bunch of goofy holes in his bumper to make the car go faster or some dumb poo poo like that. I almost lost it when I saw this in the wild and though it was that car: I also drive a Civic, so the guy was passing me, fartcan exhaust coughing out a trail of black smoke.

It is definitely possible to improve cooling and aerodynamics by modifying the bodywork, but taking a hole saw to the bumper(s) is not very effective. In most cases that probably increases drag and doesn't provide any actual benefits.

There were 15k of those cars made total or close to that number, no idea if the transmission was used in anything else...but I know where 5 of them are that I can guess haven't been driven in a few years. (one of which was mine that was towed to my friends yard and she ended up buying it off me for scrap).

I remember the heyday of carburettor super- and turbo- charging. I remember one particularly enterprising fellow putting an intercooler on his turbo astron II Mitsubishi Scorpion, the turbo kit for which was a draw-through design. I look forward to these folks learning the same lesson that he did about large volumes of air fuel mixture just hanging about.

The solution there seems obvious: a variety of large-diameter, fast acting pressure relief valves throughout the intake system, calibrated to vent it directly out some side exit exhausts if the pressure rises above maximum boost.
