OK, I had to hold off on the $1800 LG 9300 OLED when that deal was going on due to some external factors, and the deal is over. Since I had extra time to read and think things over, I've decided that I want to go a bit larger than 55" due to the viewing distance I'll be using the set at. I can't justify the 65" OLED at this point in time with the current cost, so I'm thinking that I'll get a solid LED set for now and get a huge OLED in like 4-5 years when the price craters.

Since I'll be using this for both games and DVR TV/streaming, I've been looking for a set that can do both well and wouldn't be a gigantic step back picture-wise from my 9 year old plasma. I also don't see the need to go 4K due to both the lack of 4K content and the viewing distance falling into a range where I really won't see a difference.

I'm sure people have some experience with it at this point, but how is the Sony KDL60W850B (or just the 850B line in general) holding up for people months/a year later? Amazon has it for about $1200 (so I can get that and a solid soundbar for under $1500) and I haven't heard great things about the 850C update to the line.

Any comparable, solid alternatives in the <$1500 price range at 60 or 65" that will be a solid set for the next few years until huge OLED is more affordable? If the answer is "Get a Vizio" which is a response I'm half expecting, what's the best Vizio option in that size and usage profile so I can do some more comparisons?

I really like the 850B. I've recommended it in this thread and people seem to like it. I would recommend it over non JS series Samsung, and those are past your price range. I wouldn't get a vizio in this case but they're in stock at most retailers so it's easy to see in person.

What's your budget for 65" oled? Price might fall faster than you think.

My wife and I are looking to spend no more than about $3000 total for a new TV/soundbar and a bit of new living room furniture, so I can't go nuts on the TV at this time. A few years down the road I'd have room to spend 2500 or 3000 on a TV alone, I'd think, if it came to that.

Thanks for the confirmation on the 850B, just need to look into delivery timeframes.

It's still really weird to me that people would drop thousands of dollars on a TV and then use it with a soundbar instead of a speaker system. I guess I haven't used one in a while but have soundbars gotten really good or something? I've seriously seen speaker setups in thrift stores that are way better than what you'd get from a soundbar

You're not missing anything, they're still terrible. Having heard the quality of recent sound bars I opted to pop over to the home audio thread instead when I got my new TV and ended up with a 2.0 setup for $180 that I absolutely adore and kicks the poo poo out of soundbars.

My sonos sound bar + sub absolutely owns, requires far less wires, doesn't require a receiver which takes up more room, and is wife approved for our apt.

I get people who want to do more. I don't have the setup for speakers to sit anywhere, I don't have the desire to run wires. It's kind of great for what it does and I got it cheap.

They're still miles ahead of any built in speakers (Sony 940c perhaps, I haven't heard them but they're so gaudy they have to be good, right??)

My brother just went and got the M65 so now the pressures really on for me to get a new TV. Ideally I want one before hockey starts up again. The M55 is $1100 at best buy right now. RTings says codec support is limited? The only smart TV feature I need is the built in media player which I regularly stream off my NAS from, are there common file types that wont work?

When does Samsung refresh their TV lineup? I'm hoping to get a new 55" set at the end of the year or early next year, but I"m waiting on price drops. I'd like to snag one when they drop the price on the current TVs to make way for new models. What time of year does this usually occur (assuming that they're on a regular annual schedule)?

New models are usually shown off at CES with them hitting the stores in phases between April and June. That's pretty much the same for all manufacturers.

My menus are different than that video but I essentially went into terms & privacy and "disagreed" (yes, they have a checkbox to disagree, not agree, so it's reversed.. loving stupid) to everything in there and my TV is now much more enjoyable. The fact that your TV is set up to spy on you and show you ads out of the box is infuriating but also unsurprising.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the LG 49UB8200? Walmart has it for $600, which from what I can tell is an awesome deal, but I'm not sure if it's worth the bullet bite. It's right on my price range.

It's primarily used for TV watching, but also Xbox One and a PC hooked up VIA HDMI. Would really love some opinions on it, as I'm having trouble finding review sites for it that aren't the biggies (CNET, etc).

Why that TV vs an E series Vizio? You could get bigger for cheaper or are you really planning on 4k gaming via the PC?

Do you love their WebOS operating system? Are you ok with 60hz refresh rate?

Otherwise it looks like a nice tv. I'd still try to go see it in person due to the lack of reviews.

Assuming you're responding to me, from my understanding since I don't want a ton of sports (occasionally MMA when it's free on cable), the 120hz thing won't make much difference.

I don't care at all about the WebOS, but the built in netflix is technically a plus for my wife.

I don't plan on PC 4K gaming, this is more semi future-proofing. Realistically, I'm not going to spend more than this, and I'm in the market for a new set now as my current is going out, and I want at least minimal access to 4K content when it's more available.

A quick search revealed to me that 50" 1080p E series are running about $528. This is the absolute max size I want, and considering the difference is $70 for 4k I figured it was worth it. I could be wrong though, it's tough to say as I'm not familiar enough with current TV sets.

Actually I went up there to check and sure enough they are giving the first 13 people (that's how many tvs they have in stock) the TV for $100. Then there was ANOTHER group of 13 in a separate line. They're getting a second shipment in tomorrow and are giving it to that group for $100 as well (the group has to exit the building at 8:30 pm and camp overnight to remain eligible).

32" should be more than enough but it needs to have wifi (I guess) because I want to send porn movies to it via my Galaxy Tab, which will be the primary use.

Here's what I"m looking for in a 55" 4K TV:

Good upscaling of non-4K stuff, since that's what I'll be watching mostly in the next couple of years
Low motion blur (I play video games and watch a lot of football / basketball)
24p support
Smart would be nice if all apps I need are present, but I have a Roku 3, so not a requirement
Around $1100 or so is my sweet spot on price

I thought the JU7100 would be nice, but it's a bit pricey for me. The 6500 would be perfect, but it has no 24p support. The Vizio M55-C2 seems to fit the bill (and is under $1000!), but Rtings says its upscaling is blurry, which I can't deal with. The JU7100 from Samsung, if it would drop closer to $1000-$1100, would be perfect for me. But I'm just going by reviews ... I'm replacing a 50" 720p Panasonic plasma, so I wonder if these ratings websites are seeing "problems" that I won't even notice because the TV will be such an upgrade.

The LG in your price range is out, it kind of sucks.

Last year's W800B Sony might be a contender, but the updated 2015 W800C is a step back. If you can find a W800B it might be worth a try.

I would actually try to find the Samsung HU8550 if you can. Be careful on Google as a lot of those retailers are not reputable.

Can I suggest you email Chris @ Cleveland Plasma about his price on the 7100 and maybe he has an HU8550? He's an authorized retailer, his prices are always great, and usually free ship no tax.

They're the same panel, I think the gaming lag is a little worse [like 10ms] but as far as I can tell they're pretty much the same. The only place I've seen the B called better was rtings and HDTVtest seemed to like it just fine. So my brother got the M65-C1 and he had it set up and testing it out, he said it started to flicker and then just before I got here the screen hosed up, no flickering now but everything is vertically stretched, so you can only see half the image. On boot you can just see half the logo at the bottom of the screen. Tried a factory reset, he's on the phone with them now and they got him to unplug and hold the power button for a while, no dice. No worries on warranty but I'm convinced it's just something stupid.

Yeah turns out it's physical. Touching the edges of the TV makes it come back but it keeps flickering. Oh well

I do think depending on prices HU8550 might be best bet. Per the AVS Forums, with the new OneConnect box (which I love for cable management), you can upgrade and take advantage of HDR.

I hear you buddy. I'm moving transatlantic next year so I have to part ways with my Panasonic 50" G20 I paid about $1600 for about 4 1/2 years ago. The only things about it I don't love are the fact it's the last model before bezel sizes stopped being thick and ugly, and the floating blacks issue which I've gotten used to. I bought it for the 24p nature and bought the right bluray player to match. It's done me proud.

I'm really hoping those OLED price crashes sink even further. I'll probably only get about $400 for my TV to put towards it so its gonna have to come out of pocket, and that 65" LG is screaming to be owned. Maybe if it comes down to $2,5k in the next year...

Got my replacement 65" JVC DM65USR today. The first one came cracked, but this one did not. Looks really good to me without calibration, but I still might try to tweak it. The antenna picks up more than my Tivo does in the front room. The sound is decent. I do see the faint bars on extremely white/gray screens because of the LEDs (mentioned in a couple of reviews online), but I have to really be looking for them. On almost all normal TV, I don't see it. So far, I'm happy for the price I paid.

I replaced my Panasonic ST60 with w805c and I'm happy with it. ST60 had lovely input lag, but otherwise it was an awesome TV. I was worried how I would cope with LCD after the glory of plasma. The only bad thing I can think of is the slightly worse black level, but I was surprised how decent it is. Especially considering it's edge LED.

Picture quality is superb and I can't imagine how the input lag could be an issue to someone. ST60 had like 60ms and that was definitely notable, but on w805c it's not.

I don't really use it for anything else that gaming and watching movies, so don't have anything to say about the smart TV stuff.
