I don't think it's intended behavior. On my computers, as long as I don't touch the notification that appears in the notification center it'll let me wait as long as I want. Once I touch to reschedule, it will reschedule automatically at a time where I don't use my computer.

Yeah, I had a notification in my tray since Thursday for "Schedule restart to apply updates" with my computer set to Always On, but I didn't bother responding to it until Sunday night when I needed to restart anyway.

I've had really awful audio/video stuttering on an i7-3770 and GTX 970s. Fixed my issue by lowering the bitrate/frequency on my audio output. I had it set at 32bit/192kHz (yes I actually have audio files ripped and encoded at this setting). I lowered it to 24bit/48kHz and the issue has pretty much disappeared. Worth checking to see what it's set at for you.

If it's completely powered off the OS has nothing to do with the power drain, unless I'm missing something.

That's exactly what it sounds like. I've experimented by shutting it down then letting it sit there with the laptop open for hours. I shut it down at 100%, then a half day later I power it back up and it's at 20%.

Yes, so far is fine in Edge. I don't use Firefox.

I found others bitching about the same problem but no solutions. I tried an extension that disables html5 but that didn't help. Worse yet is that after a few times my computer freezes and I have to cut power.

I think I might roll back to Windows 8.1 until DirectX 12 games start showing up.

Over the last two weeks I've had more bluescreens than I had in my entire time using Windows 8 (from launch), and every few days when I turn my computer on in the morning, the BIOS needs to restore itself from the backup ROM. Last night I put my computer into sleep mode instead of a full shutdown to see what would happen, and when I woke it back up today, it fired up and then bluescreened attempting to write to read-only memory. Now, bluescreen errors being as vague as they are, I opened up the event viewer and grabbed a calculator and the Intel 64 System Programming Guide, found the bug check parameters for ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY, and decoded the page table entry, which was mapped read-only and execute-disable pointed at 9MB physical.

I don't even know what the gently caress Windows was trying to do but I'm wondering if poo poo like this is related in some way to my apparent BIOS issues.

For over a decade I have used a category system for the Start menu. This reached its peak during my time using Win7, where the root level is mostly folders, like Games, Programming, Multimedia, etc., and within each category folder is a single icon to launch each relevant program, and if a program has ancillary things that I might actually care about (e.g. PDF manuals for a game, or source code utilities that come with an IDE) they get their own sub-folder within the relevant category folder. Upgrading from Win7, the new Start menu makes this system unusable. For example, my "Games" folder is still there under "G" but when I click to expand it all the silly ancillary things barf forth with the rest of the icons, things that I would normally keep confined to their specific subfolders that in Win7 were nicely kept below the main launching icons of the rest of the folder.

Has my little icon fiefdom finally come to an end? I got to the point where this, combined with the "hit Win-key and type" method was second-nature to me; on the other hand, I'm not opposed to the ideas that the new Start menu is proposing. But it seems like MS has kind of thrown to the wayside any organizational systems besides "have one app icon" or "have all the poo poo for one app inside a single folder".

Yeah, it's kind of dumb that they're limiting subfolder depth to one level. Since I never use all those extra start menu shortcuts ("Visit MyDumbCompany's Website!"), I ended up deleting the whole thing and adapting to the flat start menu list. It's actually kind of nice that way, but I wish there was a way to show folders in their own group, rather than alongside the alphabetical order.

But then, I wish I had more control over a lot of the things in Windows 10.

Does anyone know of a fix for the boot loop/repair loop?

My computer updated overnight over a week ago and when I woke up it was in repair mode. I have tried every option except to format, because if I have to format I would like to get stuff off the drive prior to doing so.

I tried also making a bootable USB on my laptop and using it to repair my messed up desktop ,but it doesn't work either.

is it a certain update that is causing the issue? when my win10 install was still win7 there was an update that failed for a while because i had a linux bootloader and the update needed the windows bootloader for some reason. i was able to fix it by booting from the bios into the windows bootloader instead of GRUB vOv

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but ever since I did the upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10, Facebook doesn't load properly in Chrome. It only shows like 2 stories in the news feed and doesn't load any more when I click on the "More Stories" button. Also, when I click on the notifications, add friends, or messages icons it just pops up the small window where the notifications normally appear and just sits there loading, never displays anything. All other websites seem to be fine. Anyone have any ideas what's going on?

This is from viewing the thumbnails on the camera's memory card, double clicking on one to open it with Irfanview, then clicking the arrow in either direction to view the other images on the memory card.

If I try to open the camera's folder with Irfanview, it doesn't exist.

Your camera appears to the computer as an "imaging device" (that has storage) rather than a "mass storage device". The "imaging device" protocol on USB can let the hardware present a filesystem-like interface to already recorded images, but it doesn't work as an actual file system. That is, the camera is telling the computer "these are the pictures I have taken".

The "mass storage device" protocol (device class) on the other hand, is general file storage. Some cameras, especially higher end ones, have a setting in its menu to control how it presents itself to the computer. If your camera allows you to switch mode like that, try it. That will essentially make it act like a very expensive and power-hungry memory card reader.

Programs have to be written specially to be able to handle the USB "imaging device" protocol at all. It seems to be a new thing that Windows 10 tries to work around this by copying the pictures over to a temporary folder on the harddrive, then opening the copy in a program.
IrfanView doesn't handle the "imagine device" protocol, that's why your camera doesn't show up there. It only handles normal drives/mass storage devices.

Update to my sleep/hibernation/who-knows problem.

To summarize: if I leave the PC idle for a certain period (looks like it's outside a few hours, maybe 3-4?), it will sleep/hibernate and won't be wakable without restarting.

Thus far I have done the following:

1. Set the computer not to sleep after any period of time.
2. Disallowed the Hard Drives from going idle after a timeout.
3. Edited the registry to disable hibernation/fast boot.
4. Edited the registry to allow further advanced power options to be available related to hibernation and inactivated those.
5. Updated video drivers, which is inexplicably recommended by several people who had this same problem.

None of these has worked. It's beginning to drive me a bit nuts. This is a desktop as well, so there's no lid behavior to modify. It's not an HP; a lot of HP's appear to have issues like mine due to drivers for the CPU/Videocard. It's just a home-built PC using a recent i5.

Anyone have any other ideas about this?

Perhaps someone can answer this, it was brought up earlier ..

I understand what happens, but WHY does Microsoft litter every single disk I have connected at the time of a Windows installation with what is seemingly critical files for the bootloader to function? I have two disks that just contained data but when you remove one of those the system refuses to boot.

I don't even begin to see a good reason to do this. Is it because of secure boot and all that other crap?

Started day 1 after W10 install and it only happens (so far) in Chrome. It could be a driver issue but there is nothing I can do about that. Sometimes it starts as the sound stuttering or getting stuck, sometimes the video gets stuck, and sometimes everything just locks up for anywhere from 5 seconds to forever.

edit; am going to disable ublock origin and see if that makes a difference.

Sometimes it's not as black and white as that. In this instance you can read this for details. Basically Chrome was doing stuff to prevent people from hooking into Chrome's processes which ended up not working after some things they assume to be true changed.
