God drat ol' boy is not having the crate. He was crate trained before I got him and he knows it's his safe zone but still. Going to try to babygate the kitchen but there's a ton of ambient noise going on around my place. I guess it's kind of my fault because I don't like crating him when I'm home and while I sleep and he seems to behave through the night if I don't. I've been throwing treats in there randomly and feed him in there too I also have a small patio I could baby gate but he'd probably bark anytime went by and I'm afraid he'll get stolen. Pax was getting bullied by another dog at the park the other day. Pax runs off and disappears behind some trees for a minute, then comes back with a gang of several other dogs to beat up the bigger dog.

He just wants to be within snoring distance of you, since you're now the center of his universe. Get him used to sleeping in the crate while you sleep, it'll help him think of the crate as 'chill time' instead of 'penalty box'. It'll also make the 4 nights a week he sleeps with you 'special treats' instead of 'regular fare'.

I learned that lesson the hard way. Casey's crate stayed in the living room when I first got her, and she was fine. Whenever the Ex and I had sexytime, she'd ruin the mood by whining and yowling and pawing at her crate. We moved the crate to the bedroom, and she was perfectly content and quiet, during even the kinkiest of sex. My dog is a pervert. She takes after her owner.

My life's work is to post a GSD puppy in this thread. e: I had a GSD briefly from 11th grade to leaving for Penn State while our Lab/Chow was becoming a victim from old age and he was just the greatest. Zelda is probably awesome and I hope she makes you happy
