zandert33 posted:We get it.. you don't like the book. Are you going to present an argument as to why, or just complain over and over that "he wouldn't act like that"? I don't know if this is directed at me but: "We get it.. you don't like the book. Are you going to present an argument as to why" - I stated that an entry of irreverent dialogue was out of touch and it threw me out of the story which I found engrossing otherwise. "or just complain over and over that "he wouldn't act like that"?" - I brought up one thing in one post - hardly 'over and over again' - if you're having this much trouble reading an internet thread then I guess you should stick to books like The Martian Just to be clear - I enjoyed the book for the most part but I thought it could have been written a lot better and don't really understand why folks gush over it - not a big deal. I will probably see the movie.

At least The Martian doesn't serve the conveniently talented nerdy Mary Sue character his perfect manic pixie dream girl as a literal reward for accomplishing his goal. Anything involving romance in RP1 was just painful to read.

This will be a good movie. I think I'm actually going to see it on opening night. I thought the book was okay. That xkcd comic describes it perfectly although I hope the movie is just endless scenes of THIS fit into THAT using nothing but THESE also I'd love to see the Aquaman one-liner after NASA realizes he's alive and wonders what he's thinking being stuck on Mars all alone

Ha, I did the exact same thing. Didn't like Ready Player One as much.. probably cause I grew up in the 90s so I knew most of the references in the book but they didn't do anything for me nostalgia-wise. Oh, and the romance stuff was pretty bad. (sticklefifer put it nicely)

I adored this. The rendering of the surface of Mars is gorgeous and it was crazy to see familiar faces in nearly every single role. Though this could easily be a one-performance kind of thing, by the end I liked that they pulled in a bunch of different characters who all feel developed. Skip the 3D if you can, but if there's an IMAX release of this I would expect it to be magnificent. e: reading that negative review from above and this is one of the most cynical readings of this film I can imagine. quote:the film above all feels like a milquetoast piece of propaganda for a financially deflated NASA which seems starved for inspiring excitement and, well, inspiration in people. flashy_mcflash fucked around with this message at 14:39 on Sep 18, 2015 |

Man that guy with the constipated look on his face must be so uncomfortable. Or so I thought until I remembered it's zero g and he doesn't need a backrest. The ISS looks really messy in general though.

That is a pretty good trailer. They've been knocking it out of the park with marketing, things that most people probably won't see, like that Ares:Live youtube channel posting these in universe trailers/things. There is even a pdf document on the Ares 3 mission and crew, as an in universe character bio. I imagine all this still will be great as special features for the DVD. http://www.docdroid.net/Zxk9zKw/the-martian-ares-3-mission-guide.pdf.html I've updated the OP with the new clips and trailers and that cinema vs science video, which is neat. Also a couple of review synopsis too. It has gone upto 97% of RT.
