It's a new thing, a desperately needed thing. And with the Grand Slam Tour Challenge starting tomorrow, we have a place to discuss why we all love Jennifer Jones and Brad Jacobs.

(tv coverage doesnt start until Thursday for some weird reason)

gently caress yeah, Curling! Also thanks for the streaming options - since I cut the cord I have not been able to watch much.

Have they created a streaming service for the Brier/Scotties? Or is that still exclusively on Cable (or TSN streaming with a cable subscription)?

Haven't heard any different, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just stuck with cable subscription broadcasts.

I made a curling thread a couple of years ago, but it was mainly for goons to talk about their own curling, which I'm quite looking forward to this year. (Although I can't go to 5-and-unders anymore, so I have to find real bonspiels to go to. I think I might be joining a team for the Lefthanders' World Championship.)

I have curled my entire life, but stopped recently due to how much money it costs. Most clubs around here (GTA / Ontario) it costs upwards of $400-500 for membership and then there are individual league fees on top of that (not to mention bar tab). I'm really itching to play this winter but it may just have to be some random fun-spiels or cash-spiels.

Partially just to bring this thread back, and partially because it's (sort of) big happenings, let's talk about brooms! Particuarly, Hardlines, those magic Blackheads from BalancePlus, and whatever else.

Personally, I've been using a Hardline for almost a year now (got it for Christmas last year) and, while it is definitely a night and day difference from my old broom (a fiberglass broom with an EQ head), there doesn't actually seem to be anything "directional" about the fabric, or if there is, I can't tell the difference and am probably using it backwards half the time.

It seems obvious to me that the Hardline broom is fine, as people have been using them for a couple of years now in major events and nobody ever seemed to bat an eye, and based on the small amounts of video that have been released, whatever weird stuff BalancePlus made is definitely unusual, but their LiteSpeed seems fine (though I've never handled one; it looks just like their answer to the Hardline style to minimize the weight of the broom).

Any goons with brooms have any input on the minor scandal that's rocking the curling world?
