Sliders. What in the gently caress happened here? Why did anyone keep watching it after John Rhys-Davies left? Did people actually give a poo poo about the Cro-Mags and/or Jerry O'Connell's evil twin (that did happen, right?) Because you know, it actually was cancelled once, and yet there were so many Sliders fan sites (????) or whatever to make the Sci-Fi Channel want it to be one of their showcase productions? Only they stripped everything about the show that was fun (what if it was Earth, but like, some weird evil group of people are in control, like the Pope or something!) They replaced it with actual plot arcs and episodes-spanning developments, which were universally terrible across the board. They brought in Kari Wuhrer because I guess they thought "guys who jerked off during MTV's Remote Control when they were 10" was a prime demo?

Sliders always seemed rather mean spirited when they got rid of people. Oh, Sabrina Lloyd wants a real career? Well now her character is lobotomized in a rape camp. They don't get to bury Arturo and I believe Jerry O'Connell got some bizarre erased from existence end to his character. Another thread reminded me of how Dollhouse got renewed even though it was a garbage show, which caused Fox to cancel Terminator: SCC. Supposedly Fox pitted both shows against each other because they wanted to cut one (due to both having low ratings) and Dollhouse won because Whedon cut the budget.

Falling Skies was always falling apart, but by this last season they were really just doing whatever. Mythbusters for obvious reasons. Deadliest Catch has been pretty unbearably stale for 2 or more seasons. The Walking Dead probably should hang it up and let the spinoff carry the torch. I still watch and will continue to watch Survivor but it sure does belong on this list. e: I might be alone on this one but even Walton Goggins chewing scenery couldn't keep Justified fresh.

Pretty much every show that goes beyond five seasons. TV shows should only be allowed 5 seasons, total. 100 episodes. It would force some shows to stop with all the filler. Plus, honestly, is there any show out there that got objectively better past its 5th season? I'm sure there are one or two, but those would be serious outliers.

Stargate SG-1. Without RDA, it just wasn't the same. Should've just turfed the rest of the cast over to Atlantis and made it there, instead of only blonde space doctor, who was the worst character on any of the Stargate shows.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent was pretty good the first few seasons. I want to say it was seasons 1-4 that were pretty good. It started getting bad when Chris Noth joined the cast, although I think that first season with him wasn't too bad. Then they changed showrunners and the show became real bad. The writing was awful, the visual style changed, just bad all around. Should have cancelled it, but there were still a few good episodes here and there. Then Chris Noth left and was replaced by Jeff Goldblum. Show started getting seriously terrible. Should have been put to death immediately. Then Vincent D'Onofrio left and it was the shittiest, lamest main character departure I can remember, no one involved in that episode seemed to even give a poo poo. By this point D'Onofrio looked like a fat hobo. Show continued for an awful, miserable season with Jeff Goldblum as the main character. Really they should have just cancelled it. I think I stopped watching here. And then I guess someone decided that the whole departure had been a mistake, and they did one last season where D'Onofrio and his partner came back with no explanation given to how they were back (I think they'd both been fired from the police when they left the show).

The Office (US) became a lot less funny after Jim and Pam got together, and became completely unfunny once Sabre bought Dunder Mifflin, at which point there were still 3 full seasons to come!

For the sake of the thread BlackAdder (waaaaah, we get it, WW1 was bad) House (after the original 3 assistants left it was just garbage) Supernatural (season 5 was a great end point, got hosed by its popularity) Smallville (after he left Smallville for college/whatever it just became nonsense) Broadchurch (Basically the UK True Detective, only way loving worse) True Blood (schlockly vampire/violence porn runined by some stupid attempt at a mythos.) Boardwalk Empire (Trying so desperately hard to be the next Sopranos it whiffed it hard) Glee (I don't even know where to start, past season 2 it was complete insanity) Heroes (Season 3 was full on batshit insane, to the point of a actual character in the show apologizing for it) Scrubs: After Zach Braff left it got worse, and given the standard up to that point that's saying something Big Love: Went off the rails in a desperate attempt to make it a cliffhanger drama. Can't even remember anything past season 2. The Simpsons: Everything after season 8 is garbage lol! (I don't really care at all) Earth: Final Conflict: gently caress this, milk the Roddenberry name as hard as we can. Andromeda: Another Roddenberry IP? Rape it into the ground. Oh, Sorbo want's to direct? Let him, no one gives a gently caress. Slash the budget for season 5 and set it all on a dusty western planet.

I don't think Boardwalk Empire should have been cancelled at all (and it was not trying to be the new Sopranos in any way, shape, or form) but I rewatched it recently and all the momentum in the show just dies after the third season finale.

Beyond Seinfeld which was already mentioned, you can make a strong argument for Deep Space Nine. Law & Order's peak was probably seasons 6 - 11. ER's sixth, seventh and eighth seasons were really great. Frasier only went off the rails in its eleventh season. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.

Justified's Season 6 was really good, that show didn't really suffer as it went on, it only seems that way because Season 2 is the strongest and 5 is the weakest

Justified's last season seemed to drag on. I feel like they could've done that entire Boyd/Ava/Raylan arc in the last 4 episodes and spent the earlier stuff on another villain besides Ted Danson's wife.

According to fan-gossip at the time, Rhys-Davies was fired because some high-up Fox exec had a long-standing grudge against him, and got him kicked-off the show out of sheer spite. The other thing I remember is that the decline of the show coincided with the arrival of David Peckinpah on staff. That guy sounded like a real piece of work.
