I'm a football widow for the evening, so I have curry, NCIS and a snoring dog. NaDy what's the difference between camping and wild camping? (this isn't the lead in to a joke, I'm actually curious)

a pipe smoking dog posted:So does this means he laughs by inhaling or something? If I recall its a fake laugh, theres some old videos floating around on youtube of his real laugh, he talks about laughing types in a book he wrote with someone called the naked grape which talks about the concept of humour and how to construct jokes and what is humour etc

Wild camping is where you just go and camp wherever off the beaten track, no campsites or anything like that. It's technically illegal in England but as long as you camp away from paths and roads and make sure to leave no trace behind it's generally alright. It's legal in Scotland though which is nice.

freelop posted:Got myself a lovely pair of jugs Yes Just a heads up if its fruit mead it will take 3-6months, if pure honey will take 8months or so [even though it can range from 6months to 3 years, depends if you're doing some subtle single honey etc, theres a great blueberry honey mead recipe in the homebrew thread where they up the flavours by cooking the honey first] but can be done in less time it really depends on the recipe [mainly if its pure honey mead or honey + other fermentables) if you got any questions feel free to ask , I recommend trying to get a bigger fermenter so you do bulk primary then you siphion off into the smaller fermenters for the secondary ferment Fluo fucked around with this message at 00:33 on Sep 14, 2015 |

freelop posted:I've ordered the book, I've noticed on the online recipes it all seems to be made in massive containers, does it not work if you scale down the batch size? because of the time it takes with mead compared to beer (think of mead more like wine) most people do 23litres / 5 gallon batch because if you're gonna store it that long might aswell get the most out of it also because after the primary fermentation you got to rack it to age it (but also make sure there is as little head space), so if you rack from a 1gallon demijohn into a 1gallon demijohn you're gonna have a bit of a head space as you want to leave the lees at the bottom, however you can use some bottled water or something to top it up (this will lower the gravity of the mead though but I recommend it) untill the book comes this is a good summary of the process http://www.makemead.net/brewingbasics.aspx http://www.makemead.net/racking-mead-and-secondary-fermentation.aspx I bring up racking / secondary fermentation because its one thing people forget about untill after they've made the mead and then go hunting for a spare demijohn etc edit: but yeah you can scale down but it depends on the recipe, don't worry the book should help you with this kind of thing wrong Fluo fucked around with this message at 10:19 on Sep 14, 2015 |
