If those things happen, no bonus points from <7 pt losses or 4 tries makes any difference? I presumed that's where things were going to get tricky. Glad to see it's simpler than originally thought.

Yeah, if Wales beat Fiji and England lose to Australia, then because Wales beat England there's pretty much (definitely?) no way that England can go through.

Assuming England Bonus point against Uruguay and Wales Beat Fiji with no bonus point then the possible outcomes are

Australia beat Wales and England by over 7 pts

Australia 17 pts
Wales 13pts
England 11 pts

England Beat Australia and Australia beat Wales all by over 7 pts

England 15 pts
Australia 13 pts
Wales 13 pts

Both England and Wales beat Australia by over 7 pts

Wales 17pts
England 15pts
Australia 9 pts

If Wales beats Australia and Australia beats England

Wales 17pts
Australia 13pts
England 11pts

So I think the bonus points will only come into play if England Beat Australia, then Wales could squeak in with a Bonus point over Fiji or a loser bonus from Australia. I think? This could well all be wrong.

Completely different sport, but they already do this in the NHL in the US/Canada. However, the big difference is that only very few situations are allowed to be reviewed by the TMO in hockey - they go with the on-ice calls most of the time.

Growing up I watched a lot more baseball than I do now, and I could never understand why they didn't use video replay to, for instance, determine that the second baseman had in fact not come within a foot of tagging the runner out - because it was obvious when the TV network showed the replay that this was the case.

I remember there was a lot of controversy in the 2004 ALCS when Alex Rodriguez (if you don't know who he is, think Quade Cooper x 1000) karate-chopped the arm of the pitcher attempting to tag him out, dislodging the ball and preventing the tag, and none of the umpires saw it - but they looked at the screen in the stadium showing the replay and called him out on interference. That was clearly the right decision to make, because A-Rod was cheating (in addition to using steroids of course), but it was definitely against the rules to use the replay footage in that manner.

Same with soccer, but we already know that's a bullshit sport anyway.

Don't write England off yet. Australia are even more fragile and have the capacity to play truly awful rugby if the mood takes them.

Hook & Anscombe in for Williams and Amos. To be honest, if they can play with half the spirit they had against England, any 15 could beat Fiji.

I wonder how far along recovery Anscombe is, though: I know he was only just not fit for the first cut, but I wonder if he's going to end up going straight home after becoming the next sacrifice.

Other injured players who might have come into contention for selection: Eli Walker, Jack Dixon

Also recently injured to various degrees: Samson Lee, Alun Wyn Jones, Paul James, Aaron Jarvis, Sam Warburton

Pre-match plans for Thursday confirmed!

The Daily Mash wrote a report on the match :

quote:

Rugby game proves sweeping national stereotypes

THE English are arrogant fops and the Welsh are brave, stocky underdogs, it has been confirmed.

Although rugby is impossible to fully understand, spectators at Saturday’s World Cup match recalled seeing the England team carried onto the pitch in sedan chairs, wearing top hats.

25-year-old Australian Tom Booker said: “From the way they were dressed in safari suits and sipping cocktails, the English reeked of imperialist aloofness.

“The Welsh on the other hand looked like men of steel, forged in the furnace of oppression and burning with vengeful feelings against the foe that had gravely wronged them throughout history.”

The English delayed kick off while they finished smoking and telling each other hunting anecdotes in loud posh voices, because that is how arrogant they are.

Booker said: “Being English, they were more arrogant than a cockerel in gold trousers. But they took an early lead because they have longer limbs due to superior nutrition.

“However at half time England were cockily drinking Pimm’s with their coach Stephen Fry, while the brave Welsh huddling in their meagre underground changing room to eat nutritious leeks and sing rousing choir songs.

“Then they gave England the pasting they so richly deserved, and the Welsh rugby captain got to marry Charlotte Church and become their king.”

Kick a man in the head in a recklessly dangerous challenge - a warning

Tip tackle - 1 week ban.

World Rugby needs to either give a poo poo about player safety or stop pretending with these inconsistent bans.

Aye, it was certainly dangerous and reckless and probably warranted a ban but I don't know how Nadolo eats a ban for that tackle and Woods walks away with a warning for kicking a man in the head.

The cynic in me says it's because one of them plays for a tier 1 team that's struggling to qualify in their own World Cup, and by golly gosh we can't make it any harder for them.

I dunno what the actual citation/ruling was, but for mine it was cleaning out the ruck by grabbing a player around the neck. If only that was enforced consistently, Quade Cooper and Schalk Burger would be cooling their heels regularly.
