I've just checked and apparently the game has not only been released, but even ported to Android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jorshasaur.shipviewer It's got mostly positive reviews so far, too. Eat you heart out, Derek Smart

Gryphon0468 posted:Oh look at that, an unfinished Alpha has bugs, who'd have thunk it? welcome to the SA starcitizen thread friend, you will fit right in here also I can't fathom how it has taken them this long to get basic locomotion figured out, in UE4 as long as you have all the mocap files/data you can get that poo poo polished and 100% in a month, and that's with just one person. I dunno how Cryengine is though, maybe it's much more a pain in the rear end, but UE4's system is incredibly streamlined and can blend things on the fly. It's almost like by sticking with Cryengine they are shooting themselves in the dick constantly....

Gryphon0468 posted:Oh look at that, an unfinished Alpha has bugs, who'd have thunk it? It's 2 years in. I mean, the hangar and that ship have been coded in since late 2013. How can this even be defended? The hangar module uses the native CryEngine code. It's a plug and play engine. And even then they broke it to be a buggy mess. After 2 years. They didn't create this engine out of thin air. It was a proven, working platform. For the hangar they only changed the assets and textures. I am still dumbfounded over the problems surrounding the FPS. Sure the employee drama gets the news but the biggest red flag is the complete inability for CIG to make a single FPS map. We are talking about a mod to the Cryengine, things that young lads and lassies have been doing on weekends for years. Just search "Cryengine mods" and see poo poo people do in their spare time. And yet, a massive development house like CIG can't even get a single map out. This is with dedicated support from Crytek and now with half of Crytek now working for them.

sorla78 posted:Seeing that DS has leaked that CIG was checking everyone's skype logs and seemingly had forbidden staff to talk to former employees (regardless if true or not, but it certainly fits their other described behaviour) kinda shows that they might not know who is behind the leaks Most of the sources were ex staff, I wasn't talking about current members at all. Listen I get that you think the "journalist" bit of this wasn't done well or whatever. I dunno I think it's telling that A they published it at all & B they got Chris Roberts to go on the record with "MY WIFE". So I don't really care much beyond that, good job, maybe I just have low expectations or it could be I don't care about "ethics in X" at all. Asking someone to comment via twitter, well it wouldn't be my first choice either, but assuming they didn't have any other contact details, it's quick easy and absolutely does not confirm anything other than you tried. I also wouldn't be so quick to repeat rumours out of CIG about staff that have left, I heard the same rumour and didn't repeat it then. Dickwolf already said that Sandi got him to spin Alex Mayberry leaving so if everyone is being careful about getting numerous sources for one side I dunno why you'd immediately not assume the other side is spinning just as hard and might be just as untruthful. I already feel bad that when Will Lewis left my first instinct was to assume he'd done something wrong as I didn't know there was a really good chance he was having a poo poo time at work surrounded by complete nutters.

In another universe: "I am truly saddended and troubled by the content that appeared in the article. We strive to have a positive, friendly, and respected work environment for our employees. There have been several cases where employees may have left on bad terms, that's the nature of the business and we wish those employees the best of luck in the future. As to the other allegations, they are unfounded." To be honest that is all CR needed to say. Instead he went on a Derek Smart rampage, ending with GamerGate conspiracies.

I dunno I think it's telling that A they published it at all & B they got Chris Roberts to go on the record with "MY WIFE". True, it definitly scored in getting the wife part settled, which in a way is an epic feat, seeing the means that were taken to avoid that statement - and the Chairmans reply was definitly revealing an abyss that I didn't expect. I have no reason to believe that your ethics are bad. You did a good job in keeping this board alert and supporting the refund movement. I amended that part about Elijah, it's definitly a low blow for someone that moved on and left CIG behind. Thanks for keeping it classy.

The game was still done in about 3-4 years. The problem was the promised date was something absurd like a few months. I can't remember but at that time most of q3w was using Romero as an insult.
