I have a long email thread with the local volkswagen dealer to get a base R at 35 +TTL, afaik invoice is 34xxx and they have holdback on top of that. They have a blue, black and white one. I like the blue and white one, the sales guy said we could "get close to 35" and to come in because they are putting $1200 worth of graphics on it. I wonder what the hell they are putting on the car? Whatever. If I can't get what I want out of that I'll take the bump in power and order the RS. I figure the R at around 35K would be a pretty good deal, as it's a 2016 and a stick anyways. We will see, I've got time on my side.

edit: looks like they will give 2k loyalty cash too. I bet I can get it down there.

I test drove the R and the creature comforts were nice but I'm at the point in my life where I know in a few years I will have kids and I want the balls to the wall insanity of the RS while I can enjoy it. Also the dealer was asking for a 1.5k markup and wouldn't budge so gently caress that.

Do I get a GTI or a WRX?

Honestly my gut wants the WRX but I'm a new dad and the GTI is more "practical." And it comes with CarPlay, while the Subaru's General stereo situation is awful.

I live in Colorado and have winter, but I know tires do more than AWD.

I guess I'm saying I might get the GTI, but I want you to convince me to get the WRX. It's really loving fun. I don't test the GTI until this Saturday and then I might get swayed.

Dude?
WRX is more fun and you can get an aftermarket stereo (which Subaru is actually pretty good about making easy) that has carplay for $400.

If the WRX is similar to the BRZ in that way I'm pretty sure the OEM head unit could be found right off the shelf at Best Buy. It looked like a generic double-DIN unit and was labeled as one of the common brands.

As long as I pay the $20k dealer markup.

Looks like I'll be waiting until next summer when I can get the car for invoice.

50%+ markup. I'd tell that dealer to gently caress off and I'd never do business with them again.

It's not like Ford dealers are hard to find. I think there's over 20 within a 45 minute drive of me. I was just at the dealer getting my car serviced and ran into my sales guy, he's ordering them at MSRP no problem.

Any chance that x-plan would avoid a markup?

Or just not dealing with a poo poo dealer? Online reviews tend to make car dealers perk up in this area of the country.

I have an X-Plan PIN and the Focus RS isn't excluded from it so it shouldn't be a problem. The one I have excludes cars like the Boss 302, GT 500, GT350/350R, SVT Raptor, and the Fiesta S. No mention of the Focus RS

I have the X-Plan as well, and bought my ST from the same dealership using it. This time, it looks like the dealership is excluding the X-plan stuff and adding $20k to the top. They said they had one person that paid cash in full for a RS already. Something tells me that'll be the only one they sell at that price.

Ok, so that dealer is being a dick, surely there are half a dozen or more in your area you can contact. I live in a big city so I have probably 20 or so within an hour of me, but unless your in Rural Kansas or something you should have at least 3 or 4 in a reasonable distance. When I lived in Topeka (a long long time ago), it was standard practice to call dealers in Lawrence, and Kansas City when shopping for a car. KC was 90 minutes away, but could be worth the trip.

Thats why this is so bizarre. I live in a decent size city with plenty of dealerships within a few minutes of each other. If I were to expand my search radius out another 90 miles, the number of dealership would probably quintuple.

Then again, this is the same dealership that put a $150k markup on a Cobra R back in 2003 or whenever those came out (and it never sold).

From one hot hatch to another...

My 2014 WRX's oil pick up tube decided to crap out and grenade my engine. I was fairly heavily modified so no chance of it being covered under warranty unless I really fight for it and that's a really low chance.

So, I decided to check out a VW dealership and ended up driving a black 16 R home, which was the only one they had. They were originally asking 43 and I got it for 39, which isn't great but not terrible. Now at least I won't be stuck in a rental for a month and can take my time to sell the WRX private party.

Definitely miss the sound of the subie, but once I break her in they will probably be comparably quick.

Be sure to set the engine mode to sport, that opens the flaps on the exhaust. Also, unplug the soundaktor, it sucks.

KidDynamite

The soundaktor is weird as gently caress. Completely threw me off in the R I test-drove. I didn't even know it had it but I asked the salesguy what was up and he was like yeah I'd just unplug that.

39 otd sounds like you got it at MSRP or a little less.

You can actually just make a custom setting and turn the sound off, leaving everything else turned on.

Also, the stock repair for my wrx was quoted at 7k, using an sti short block and the quote for upgrading my current motor with forged and upgraded components all around for 7500, both with the killer b pick up tube of course.

I think I might just keep both cars... How insane would I be to own 2 hot hatches of similar color, both manuals? At least it would keep my inner boy racer at bay and keep delay me from modding the R.

Assuming you have a Vagcom. For me, it was much easier to take the 10 minutes to just unplug it and be done with it. Car sounds much better without it.

Yeesh I got a markup quote as well but not nearly that bad. I've never pre-ordered a car before and was wondering if the dealer telling me that I'd have to pay 3k over MSRP on the RS was a bad deal. I definitely think I can afford to wait a year and not get jacked on prices for the RS.

I'd love to get some wacky crazy rims for my FoST for the winter sets. Unfortunately, when I had to get winters, I went with the cheapest, ugliest rims possible for them:

http://www.wheelsbymbmotoring.com/product.php?wheel=Sprite

The center caps have already started to miscolor after about 2 years, and by golly are they ugly. I'm tempted to switch them out with something, ANYTHING, other than them.

I have one of each ('13 Miata and '15 Fiesta ST) and they are the perfect car combination. Have both and get rid of whatever your daily is. Miata is the daily on nice days when you don't need to haul anything, Fiesta for anything that doesn't qualify as a Miata day.

I'm in a position where I'm debating having a similar setup. FiST+ND Miata or Focus RS is what it comes down to.

My only real concern is that the ND may feel anemic in the low end compared to the FiST (Phone made some reassuring posts to the contrary though).

Dude?
I haven't driven an ND but the NC has a similar power rating and torque curve and it doesn't feel anemic. The Fiesta and the Miata are very different from each other in terms of feel. There is no clear winner on which one is more fun. They each have their strengths. The FiST is just so much fun accelerating while turning. It just keeps pulling and has so much grip it feels like you could just go around and around an endless ramp for days and never stop accelerating. The miata on the other hand is most fun on the open road. Downshifting before climbing a hill that bends to the right everything just feels great. Get to the top of the hill to take sharp left, downshift again, crank the wheel, stomp the accelerator, slide, repeat. It just feels so rewarding that it makes that kind of driving feel so effortless.

Both cars are so much fun I can't see myself ever getting rid of either. I considered the FoRS before I got the miata, but after I feel like I've got the best of both worlds.

Besides, I think the FoRS is going to be too powerful to really have fun with it on public roads. The FiST and the NC Miata really are the sweet spot of fun on the street for me.

Going to bet the GTI/R is going to be the most comfortable out of the new ones. They are less harsh than an ST and the seats are much better for cruising. I drove to Michigan and back from Florida in 4 days and had no complaints, and also to Texas from Florida for Quakecon and two other people and we also had no complaints. This was in an MK6 R.

I would imagine the Mercedes AMG CUV would probably be the most comfortable although that's really tall for a hatch.
