I can't decide if Kylo Ren is going to be the actual big bad guy who we fear for three movies or if he's gonna turn out to be some kinda pathetic, Vader fanboy wannabe poser. From his sputtering, slapped together lightsaber to him stroking Vader's helmet while cosplaying as him, he seems more like the latter who will be a red herring who gets dunked on by the end and the rest of the movies are Snoke/Sith Luke/whoever actually loving poo poo up.

Kylo seems kinda like Vader-lite. Maybe he'll look more badass in the next couple trailers

I really do think the movie looks great and I've watched the trailer five times and I wore a poo poo-eating grin the whole time, so don't think I'm just pooping on the movie before it's out, I'm really psyched, honest :shobon:

I love that it doesn't feel like a Star Wars movie. I've had six of them. Haven't we all been saying for years that a different type of movie in the universe of Star Wars is what we wanted? We're about to get a bunch. I, for one, couldn't be happier about that. Exciting and new.

Back even before the prequels came out, I always hoped in vain for the day when someone would remake Star Wars, I mean literally Episodes IV-VI redone with a different director and freedom to change whatever. I don't think I knew then that David Lynch had been considered for ROTJ, but that's the exact sort of thing I mean - just get people who are good at making movies play around in the Star Wars universe, like maybe someone could do Lucas one better and make an actual silent film, just go wild. The anthology films seem to be a good compromise to me.

Episode 7, to me, has the feel of what a Spielberg directed Star Wars movie. All the sentimentality of it all should work really well with this kind of material.

Is there anything concrete on whom Sydow is supposed to be? I know Kennedy or Abrams or somebody higher up in production said that he played the older version of a character from the OT that nerds would recognize, but there hasn't been a single thing since.

I think there was some fan-wanking about him playing an elderly Boba Fett, but that's definitely bogus. MSW seems to think that he's an old man on Jakku named Lor San Tekka who knows something about Luke's whereabouts. But it doesn't make much sense to cast such a well-known actor and shroud him in secrecy for a fairly small part.

Regarding the alleged spoilers: I hope they're fake because I don't care for a few things in there. In particular, if it's true that Finn, despite being pictured with the saber on the poster and I think in other promotional materials as well as the trailer, ends up tossing it to Rey because he isn't the true owner or deserving owner or whatever and has to rely on her to save his rear end I will be rather disappointed.

I dont think you'll be disapointed because I dont think Finn is gonna have an arm to throw it with. She will end up with it somehow(force pull), look at concept art in my previous posts.

edit: ^^^ If I remember correctly, its a combination of concept art and casting calls or something like that.

Given the MSW spoiler, it seems most likely that if he's a returning character from the OT, then it's someone who was a good guy in the OT. Most likely candidate, in my mind: Wedge Antilles. Denis Lawson has stated publicly that he's out, and Von Sydow kinda resembles an older Denis Lawson (at least close enough that a bit of careful make-up would get you the rest of the way). Seriously, look:

Sure, Von Sydow looks older, but their face shape is similar.

It also kinda fits what we already know about Jakku. If Jakku was the last great space battle before the Empire went into hiding and morphed into the First Order, it's plausible that Wedge ended up settling there.

I don't know if it's worth it to still speculate about the plot since spoilers (that I'm not reading) are being thrown around willy nilly, but anyway:

I'm guessing that that big Kylo/Finn lightsaber fight features Finn getting his poo poo pushed in for a while, before getting saved at the last minute by XXXXXX.

I'm just not sure what XXXXXX is yet. I figure it's either:

1) Luke out of nowhere to save him and lay the smack down on Kylo
2) Rey suddenly realizing she's a natural with a lightsaber/force powers and beating down the wannabe Kylo
3) Han sacrificing himself to distract Kylo long enough for Finn to escape

Also, I kinda always assumed Han would die in this movie, but it's not until I started reading this thread that I realized it was a possibility Chewie could die too. Not Chewie. :(

SMG my question got lost in the tviv trailer posting but what do the Wampa in ep 5 and Rancor in ep 6 represent? (In relation to your comment about the colusseum monsters)

The Wampa is the first of three monsters that Luke encounters in a cavern in Ep.5. The second time, it's the vision quest / dream sequence and the third is the battle at the end of the film. Note that the creature's arm is cut off, just as Luke's will be. The monster is something 'inside himself'.

The Rancor fight is pretty much a redux.

MakingStarWars has been around forever, and numerous people at Lucasfilm who have access to things have fed them call sheets, photos from set, shot lists, planned merchandise, and miscellaneous bits of shooting info, going back to when the prequels were being filmed. A lot of the synopsis of this movie was cobbled together from those pieces, which is why they seem quite sure of how the movie plays out start to finish.

In short, they happen to have good connections, some of which are undoubtedly people who read the site a decade-plus ago as fans having ended up at Lucasfilm and their subsidiaries since then. It wouldn't surprise me if a good chunk of the more specific moment to moment stuff came from ILM folk given how thoroughly digital work is involved on something like Star Wars.
