After the loss to the Brave Blossoms bowing out in the semis to the ABs is still a reasonably good showing. Here's hoping for some more exciting rugby tomorrow and next week. Best World Cup

If you want match officials who actually care about forward passes you could try watching League?

The pass wasn't forward. You can see clearly from the aerial view that starts at 0:36 that it is flat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l23BW_hjQEs

El Pollo Blanco posted:If you want match officials who actually care about forward passes you could try watching League? They do not, they only call 1/2 the forward passes at best. Also that penalty against Habana hitting Milner-Skudder in the back was bullshit. M-S stepped in front of Habana intentionally and Habana could literally not do anything else but run into him. I mean maybe that is a penalty in laws-as-written, but you shouldn't be able to turn a fair contest for a loose ball into a penalty for your side by doing that.

The ref was a non-issue in this game... Pass wasn't forward and none of the penalty calls were scandalous. The Springboks are clearly a decent team but they need to develop their attack if they want to start winning with greater consistency. Also their uncharacteristically shaky line-out and kicking out of hand put themselves under pressure. Credit must be given for putting in a admirable World Cup effort after that shocking start. All Blacks's applied all the pressure in this game and were full credit for the win. It was not as flashy as last week's but they controlled large sections of the game well and lived in the SA half of the field. Solid victory really. The sportsmanship shown by SBW on Jessie Kriel was amazing to see too.

I'm not fond of his interpretations of when advantage is over, and I think he plays his hand a bit too early in the game, but he's not garbage.

Last week after watching NZ/FR, I felt a bit of relief that Wales didn't have to face that monster of a team... without seeing the game and just going by reactions, there's a chance we might not have been absolutely killed out there? That kinda hurts.

The Bokke did not bother with this difficult concept you call At Tack Ing. The All Blacks were peripatetic, like usual in a World Cup and, like usual, got away with it.

People get really weird about the reffing in All Black games, even when the calls go against us the opposition were outrageously screwed over by our devious acts of foul play according to some.

As a Bokke fan I can't really blame the ref for the result. The truth is the boks never looked like they were close to mounting an attack or threatening. They gave up possession easy to easily and it was only due to excellent defense that they weren't completely or of the game. They're weren't any controversial calls and even the closer forward pass try wouldn't have made much of a difference.
