What are the guesses for next week's episode? Someone said Live or Let Die, and I remember a mention that Never Say Never was on the table.

They already did a bad Brosnan, so I'd guess this is going to be either a Roger Moore movie or Never Say Never Again. I'd bet on any of the following:

Live and Let Die (horrible racist caricatures)
Moonraker (batshit crazy plot)
Octopussy
A View to a Kill

I don't know why they kept harping about Stephen King, it's not like he wrote the movie.

Wait, is the novel actually substantially different?

TetsuoTW posted:

Not substantially no, but it's arguably a little more sympathetic to the Gypsies than the movie is, and the 'Thinner' scene itself is massively downplayed compared to the movie. It's essentially Richard Bachman channelling Tales From The Crypt, which was one of the ideas behind King using that name. He just wanted to churn out these fun, nasty little tales. It does end differently though: He straight up just gives the pie to his wife (There's no imagined affair) and of course his daughter eats it as well. Then he sits down and eats the rest of it himself.

It's not like it's some great King masterwork or anything like that. It's just a silly story about Gypsy curses.

Yeah Never Say Never Again would be a poor choice with this silly thing on the table. You can pretty much lampoon any bond movie honestly though, with the exception of maybe Casino Royale which has the distinction of being both a very good one and not old enough to seem silly in hindsight.

Yes, he also goes on a blaxploitation adventure in Harlem, and for the villain's death they literally replaced the actor with a black-man-shaped balloon and made no attempt to hide it. He flies up to the ceiling and pops.

Really looking forward to Bond Week. I only remember weird snippets of the older movies from when I was a kid and the only other podcast I've heard them discussed on is James Bonding, which doesn't really make fun of them.

To help that make a little more sense, the object Bond shoves in the guy's mouth is a bullet that causes things to inflate. It's still insane.

Yeah I like that on WHM they talk about the same amount (Jupin gets in a bit more but he's guiding the plot usually so it makes sense) and they have a good sense of timing and letting a joke breathe. Also I crack up every drat time someone on there has to wheel their chair away from the microphone due to laughing too hard, it's great camaraderie.

I hadn't listened to an episode in a while, thank God I decided to break that streak with the Thinner episode. I forgot how quick-witted and sharp these guys are, their humour is just so infectious and on-point and I just love listening to their diatribes. The running joke about the different curses the Romani guy should have cast on the characters had me in tears of laughter.

This is going to sound odd, but one of the reasons I stopped listening to The Flophouse was because I sensed a lot of tension between Elliott and Dan, and it made it an uncomfortable listen.

Makeup being terrible is apparently a theme, based on that fatsuit and the guys's description of the lizard and elephant guys.

The worst thing about The Flophouse is that the actual movie talk is like 20 minutes. I get it, it's jokes, but at that point just do a comedy podcast or something, you're completely ignoring the movie.

The mail bag has its moments, but it's mostly used as a way for unfunny listeners to get the guys to run though tired, running bits. I kinda miss when they weren't playing up their "characters" so much.
