Not really, sounds like your company just contracted the cheapest, shittiest CPA firm around, or the firm doesn't value them enough as a client to send you competent people. If an auditor is going in and being that lovely & unwilling to be reasonable, then you are dealing with a really really bad auditor. The autistic weirdos who have no social skills cant cut it anywhere but the worst firms.

There are a lot of weird specialty Federal compliance auditors that have no clue what they're doing and cover it up by just being abrasive and threatening people, though.

This whole mess just makes me sad. Even if the game wasn't a sham, I genuinely fear the reaction these people will have if when this peters out. I mean look at this:

At minimum, we have people foregoing food in order to buy promises and dreams. Even though he tries to excuse it, you should never be spending to the point where you ignore basic necessities. I don't care if it's for a month or an hour, you don't do that. That behaviour is unhealthy.

What's worse, this example is one of the tamer ones. How many people have drove themselves into financial ruin backing this game. At the very least, we know one guy ended up getting divorced because he spent all the family savings on a game that shows no sign of finishing anytime soon.

I'd like to think these are just outliers. However, the community's own actions suggest otherwise. The number of people reacting to Derek's running commentary by dropping hundreds and thousands of dollars on this game cannot end well.

Serious question to crossposting redditors: What is the appeal of pre ordering ships? Even assuming the game gets made and reveals all who spoke ill of the project to be wrong, I don't see any advantage in buying them. They certainly don't provide anything tangible at this point. Why not wait until the game is out before you commit several thousand dollars to a product?

Ah well, if nothing else, this thread has managed to get a few laughs out of this.

I've said before, I don't know if there is a way to help those so far gone. Even if the game fails, even if it's declared dead and cancelled they'd still say "look at Duke Nukem Forever, it eventually came out!" and still wait optimistically.

Even if Croberts was sued in a class action lawsuit or by the FTC, they'd pitch in more money for his defence fund while bemoaning those nasty "Goons" and that "Derek Smart!"

Even if the game did come out and is revealed to be total poo poo, they'd blame "Goons" again or Derek Smart paying off reviewers or Gamergate or even the loving Illuminati.

Chris Roberts would literally have to record a video of himself snorting cocaine off a desk Scarface style, laughing his rear end off and telling the backers what gullible fools they were before they started to have any change of heart. And then it'd be too terrible a burden to bear and they'd end up killing themselves.

CIG needs to do like Blizzard did and literally tell people not to waste all their money on jpegs. Blizzard did something where they told players to "enjoy all things in moderation, even World of Warcraft", or something to that effect, which was a nice touch. Chris Roberts is the opposite, he just wants more and more. :(

When this goes tits up any whale that hosed his life over this game will get zero sympathy from the rest. "Shouldn't have invested more than you could afford" they'll say without an ounce of self awareness, it'll make a great balm for their ego. I predict that if anyone does off themselves over this it will be someone that gets jumped on by marginally less invested citizens in a "at least I'm not that dumb" relief of cognitive dissonance.

I fear the more likely outcome of that scenario is them all declaring that Derek Smart drove him to drugs and he clearly didn't mean that and that its all peaches those nasty goons said all those mean things and STAR CITIZEN IS COMING EVEN IF CIC DIES! The reason why they don't is because they desperately need the money. Any healthy company would (well most). Either because they care about their consumers or because if someone blows their life savings and then their wife leaves and they kill themselves, that would be bad PR. I think CIG legit doesn't give a gently caress about these rubes. Except they do it through a forced smile than outright contempt like Games Workshop.

Star Citizen is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it's fidelity when you look out your window or when you watch youtube

There was a gif posted a week or so ago of a pilot sitting in a cockpit, the ship rotating around, and the pilot's limbs rolling around the cockpit as the ship rotated. I'm not bothering to look for it because I bet it got nuked by the bot. It basically says all that needs to be said about why this game will never come out in any form even slightly resembling the promises that have been made.

You get your basic starting point build made, all's good. Then you start going down the list of 1,200 promises you've made. You decide to pick something simple to start with, like ship localized physics or some bullshit. You spend 3 weeks mucking up your code with patches and tentacles running through everything. Finally you're done, it seems pretty good, the code's kind of messed up now, but you'll clean it up later. Oh, wait, the pilot's arms and legs fly around all over the place when the ship rotates. gently caress. Only 1,199 hacks to go.

This is basically what happens when you don't have the underlying framework for your software worked out before you start slapping stuff together, and it only gets exponentially worse when you fall victim to feature bloat. I've been there before with my own software, where I just start making stuff, get it working, then try to start sticking other features on later. It always results in a completely unmanageable mess.

If they were promising only a space ship sim, I'd say it was a reasonable possibility for them to get it together and produce something. They are promising pretty much everything that could be imagined, don't appear to have their fundamental framework worked out, and are pathologically ridden with feature bloat. This situation is an absolute death knell for any project. This is why the media they have to present of what their game offers seems to be going backwards and is less impressive than what they were showcasing years ago, it's the reason they've had to start SQ42 over, and it's why everything is in modules. Nothing works together. When they try to combine all these separate pieces, it will not be possible even by the greatest coding wizards. They are destroying their own work through bad project management and bloat. I wouldn't be surprised if in the end, when the project falls apart, they have almost nothing functional left because everything has been wrecked with half-assed hacks and patches to make space juke boxes and targeting reticules not rotate through the hull and fly off into the nearest physics object.

I can't even call it a con job, because with that the smart thing to do would be to poo poo out a decent space ship sim, then run off with the rest of the tens of millions in funds and the project completed. This is a guy who's in completely over his head, is going to end up blowing every dollar, and nobody will have anything to show for it except some space ship concept art.

I can't believe how off in the weeds this project is. These are actual real manuals. No project can survive this.

I was gonna say that this man is an idiot because if SC comes out "in a few years" the boundaries will already have been pushed by 5 or 6 or 7 years and everything that SC once thought was innovative and more will have been done already and competently, but then I remembered SC should still have the market cornered in the Space Tetris and Space Hostess simulation.
