GBS Pledge Week

I can't wait for all the indie games 1-2 years from now, made by ex-CIG people who got an up close & personal lesson about making a game with achievable roadmaps and reasonable goals.

Yes. They would rather pay fines, break the law etc, than reveal ANY of this company's finances. And somehow, this is all OK with some people.

The one where movies are still on physical media in the distant future and that they have to be swapped for the space passengers is even worse. How does that get through any kind of design meeting without someone slamming on the brakes and saying a minigame of changing movies out for people is not fun?

The existence of a drink mixing minigame isn't what bothers me.

What bothers me is that the drink mixing minigame was implemented before the base game even existed. That just screams bad project management, a needless focus on minutiae while ignoring the big picture.

Yea, that whole schtick about the mini games and occupation stuff was what finally confirmed that if there is an actual MMO part, it will be filled with the most profound un-fun tedious bullshit bad design we've ever seen in a game.

Hello friends, when is the show starting? Also I looked through 2015's WARN report for Texas and did not spot anything on CIG. Shouldn't they be in it if they're closing studios down?

Under certain circumstances, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires you to provide notice 60 days in advance of plant closures or mass layoffs. The WARN Act is intended to offer protection to workers, their families and communities.

The disk changing was also dumb but somehow my mind can rationalise it like it does for the hacking minigames from Deus Ex (for example). There's something about mixing drinks, getting judged on 'quality' and having more drinks 'waiting' in the queue that just makes my brain go :gary: PAAAAAAAAAAAAARP

I have no idea whether the fluid dynamics minigame is the drinks mixer or not. It could be something completely different.

But it's an intriguing possibility that some programmer spent a bunch of time making the space-liner drink game have realistic liquid simulation because Chris was like "NO NO NO I want those drinks to spill REALISTICALLY when the pilot maneuvers wildly at the same time you're pouring a Hairy Roberts!"

Nickiepoo posted:

MMOs are tedious because of extreme repetition by players. Star Citizen is designed to be tedious from the first experience.

Instead of reinventing the wheel with an Incredible And Revolutionary Space Flight Attendant Cocktail Mixer minigame, couldn't they just license a custom version of Cook Serve Delicious? That game's actually fun and exists, and CryEngine's such a resource hog that nobody will notice any extra performance decrease from stapling a Gamemaker game to it.
