Is there anywhere on the SA games forums where people are talking about Dream Quest? I just recently got an ipad and I was looking for some ios games to try. A website called PocketTactics had Dream Quest as their #1 RPG of 2014 and described it as a mashup of a roguelike and Magic: the gathering so I decided to give it a shot. I've been playing it non-stop for the past 3 days. Rock, Paper, Shotgun reviewed it as it's out for the PC now as well. The game is incredible, they need to give this guy the noblel prize for gaming. If you have the slightest interest in roguelikes or trading card games.

I am constantly talking about Dream Quest because it's the best. The guy apparently has joined Blizzard's Hearthstone team, which is a shame. Seriously, if you have even slightest interest in card-battling roguelike with beautiful art, give DQ a go.

Dream Quest is the poo poo, no kidding. If I had to make a complaint, it would be that on Velociraptor difficulty (originally the only one), there's less wiggle room for build variation than I'd like. Also that some rare monsters seem only beatable by like half the strategies? Sphinxes in particular are huge cockblockers, but luckily several classes with heavy focuses (Warrior, Wizard) can get past them without fighting. On that note, I recently upgraded to Windows 8, and Dream Quest keeps doing a thing where it'll work fine for a day or so, then it'll never run again and I have to redownload it. Anybody else have the same problem?

I'm close to 20 hrs in and I only have 2 wins on normal difficulty., with Monk and Paladin. The Monk deck was easy to build, action cards and Proteus to draw your whole deck, a couple heals, a forcefield (whatever that card is that that reduces all damage to 3), a slice and a way to double it up. I couldn't quite draw/play my whole deck in 1 turn going into floor3 and I was considering getting rid of my psi blast and the card that heals 10 when you discard it, but the first shop had that insane draw 3/gain 3 actions card. With paladin I relied on a couple of rank3 holy strikes, a meditate and a haste early on. At the end of floor 2/beginning of floor 3 my deck picked up a Mahamat and Mana Swell, so every other turn I was doubling Haste or doubling Mahamat. I really suck with the basic classes, wizard especially seems impossible. Maybe I need to learn to teleport past the stuff I shouldn't be fighting more. The boss that pisses me off the most so far is Lich, seriously gently caress that guy. He's the only boss the requires a lich-only attack card, and if he can get 5 mana and cast his complete heal/kill you spell it's game over. I had an extremely promising Wrath of god warrior be forced into fight the "dance puppet" undead thing as I could not Smash around it, and instead smashed myself in the face repeatedly.

YAAM! Finally cleared Angel of Marksmanship! With that, I've cleared all the weapon challenges. I never found any interesting special/unique pistols, but the energy pistol and storm bolter pistol carried me through pretty well. By the end I had 0.4s/move from the antigravity boots and 0.2s/shot from Son of a Gun 3/Finesse 2; it took me a lot of shots to kill most things, but not much time at all. I figured I'd be content with a Mastermind kill, but found a nuke just before entering Hell 8 and decided I might as well give it a shot. The fight against JC actually went really well; with a battery pack in my off hand for fast reloads I was acting so quickly that he only got perhaps six actions, and none of the enemies he summoned got any except the lost souls. Aw yeah, racked up 2 more wins! My wizard got that altar that gives + a bunch of HP and gives all mobs -1 phys resistance. That gave me enough time to assemble the Electrocute/Mana Surge deck. My warrior had an awful deck, I swear it had to have been 15+ cards, I still had two 1-attack cards on the final boss. I got the life leach altar and kept chugging along with all my attack cards. Wrath of God made me choose +2mana over +9 health, it was painful but let me Wrath twice per fight as I had no other way to get back mana. On the final floor I thought I was dead to a Revenant when he went immune to my Charm and Anticipate in his final form, good thing I didn't rage quit because I forgot I took the talent that cheats death and gives you a full heal! I was extremely low (20ish) starting the Hydra boss fight. Using all my cooldowns on the first turn and doubling up on Flame Slash gave me enough damage to life leech me back up to a level where I was safe with my shield, and -1 phys res armor, and an active Shield Bash. He still got to +4 cards in hand from the enrage timer because it took me so long to cycle through my deck over and over again to use my 1 Flame slash.

I can't stop playing Dream Quest, you guys. I suck at priest, died a bunch and decided to try a different class. Won with Thief after a few tries. Triple Circle carried me along with a Dodge through the first half of the game. That one card that exiles 2 of your own cards came in handy as I had to take out a Hag and some demons, I was able to exile a bunch of the curses and keep the Dice train rolling. I got Titan as the floor3 boss with no equipment breaker in sight. I picked up that one card that makes you invuln for 1 turn but you have to remove it from the game after 1 use, so my turns against the titan went: t1 invuln talent, t2 75% dodge, t3 invuln card, t4 75% dodge, t5 cheat death talent kicked in t6 I killed him. Then I won on my 3rd game with a Samurai! I copied up to a 4rth Sorcerer's Strike and had 3 monasteries spawn so my deck was lean and mean. All that mana with 2 Storm Shapes kept me safe and sound. Had a dicey moment against a hag that cursed me out the rear end but Deck of Wonders coughed up some quality stuff and I was able to finish her off. I leveled up to max and took the Fully Equipped talent against the Shark boss and it got pretty close, I wiffed 2 rounds of not having Storm shape at all and 1 early round where I only had 6 mana so I'm glad I had that 20% shield and armor on.

I've been running it on Windows 8 with no problems, sorry mate.. The Velociraptor is a bit of a pain, yes. I've only managed to beat it with two classes (Assassin and Professor). The Professor win also gives you Portent talent to choose in the beginning, which shows the bosses on all three floors (and the Lord of Dreams' gimmicks) - it's extremely useful because some of them basically annihilate certain strategies. The rare monsters you just sometimes have to avoid - it should still be possible to hit level 10 by the end. TooMuchAbstraction posted:Beautiful art? I haven't really played any roguelikes since... I dunno, Angband? OAng? Something like that. ToME has eaten my brain and it's become my new timewasting game of choice. Been playing it for a couple weeks now, and I think I have an okay handle on things, despite not yet getting a character past 20. (Got a wyrmic up there, and I'm rolling with a temporal warden right now. So many flashing special effects on him.) I'm never going to stop swearing at the drat escort missions though, am I?

If you right-click on the escortee, you can ask them where the portal is (they'll say something like "far away, to the north"), and you can also ask them to hold position for a few turns. If you do the latter too often they'll start ignoring you, but it can be a lifesaver. Also, we have a dedicated ToME4 thread.

Thanks to the thread I picked up dreamquest and it's fantastic. I've yet to get a win but I've made it as far as the floor 3 boss a few times. I've unlocked all the passive perks the old fashioned way, so I'm debating what to blow my achievement points on. Any advice for a fun class to unlock?

The newest version of Cogmind, Alpha 4, has just dropped. New features include a new secret map, new machine hacks like uploading Trojans against the enemy AI, and various quality of life improvements. Balancing changes include slight nerfs to EM weapon, slight buffs to thermal weapons, and various propulsion changes. I'm looking forward to seeing how the changes impact combat runs (my win relied heavily on EM weapons and taking advantage of a mechanic that garrisons changed). Full change log here: http://www.gridsagegames.com/forums/index.php?topic=313.0 If you're between roguelikes or just want to try something new, I can't recommend cogmind enough. There's no other RL like it out there. In other news, I ascended a melee only mummy in DCSS the other day. Never doing that again, gently caress.

Most of the unlockable classes that don't give you generic cheevos are gimmick classes that can get OP as hell, but they're fun to fool around (except Druid - that's the only class I bounced right off).

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up on this thread recently, but I had a friend ask me about Skyshine's Bedlam, claiming it was a roguelike. I don't think it's been talked about much, if any, here. I have no answer to your question though! I know people have talked about it in the steam thread and weren't overly positive about it.

It’s half-price on Steam right now, which I assume is what prompted the question, but the reviews there are Mixed which is not really a good sign.

It's like a turn-based tactical combat game, but you only get to move 3 party members per turn (regardless of party size) and starting positions in each battle are randomized so your fourth guy might start in range of an enemy who can oneshot him. Disclaimer: I haven't played it, I've just read forums posts complaining about it. And I watched a little bit on twitch once.

I'm curious what you think cause imo it's still awful. There's still no real content (unless the patch notes don't mention an overhaul to the encounters), the patch notes DO NOT mention a loading screen tip that changed vets and elites being limited to only 3 levelups (I don't care enough to smash my dick long enough to see if that's true) and there is no actual progression in the game, it's all linear (troop levelups are +1 damage, dozer upgrades are a straight +X% efficiency, weapons are random drops only). The last patch made it so that you only get resources if you pick them up in combat. In ~crazy world of bedlam~ all loot explodes if you don't take it before killing the enemies around it, apparently. There's just no cohesiveness to the theme and no real reason to replay the game. The combat is very take it or leave it; I like the combat personally, but it's still INCREDIBLY pointless given everything (or the lack thereof) surrounding that combat system.
