If they want to really wow the 'open development' fans, but without actually showing any of the work in progress, they should get an open web cam. Goons went crazy over an open webcam thread a couple years ago. Cams in offices, cams in homes, even cams in outdoor public places. Goons basically fell in love with some guy we nicknamed "Fritz" who worked in an ISP office in Germany. It is weirdly fascinating.
