Oh my God that was some bullshit.

It railroads me into trying to force an inverse Red Wedding, I back out of it as soon as it lets me do it, and then it says "lol nope here it is anyway!" Plus the Forresters are so loving incompetent they can't do any Goddamn thing right. Every single time they let someone into their hall they die. It's hilarious almost.

But ironically it wasn't the deaths, but the survival that really had me go "BULLSHIT" and literally stop caring the second it happened: Asher's survival. When he got stabbed in the back they played it like he was going to die. Then he got RUN MOTHERFUCKING THROUGH THE SPINE and made a last second kill. Then it was like "Nope, you get to survive!" Unless he's some mystical immortal bullshit guy or something now, that was utterly and completely ridiculous on a scale that jarred me right the gently caress out of the game.

ED: Above, all the spoilers.

Mira's dead, I ripped some dudes heart out, and killed a lot of people at Ironwrath.

Haha, I'm watching the epilogue, and I love how they have every show actor just talking about how terrible the Forrester house is.

I'm reading that if I had kept Rodrick alive, he chooses to sneak into the Whitehall camp and attack. That seems completely backwards. I'd expect Asher to sneak into camp and Rodrick to hold an ambush feast.

Oh Goddamnit.

That's what I wanted Asher to do: Launch the sneak attack, not the ambush. I was down for a sneak attack. It seemed his style. I wanted to ninja out there. Goddamn it. Why'd it flip the characters? Asher suddenly fought as lovely as Rodrick too.

In the Rodrick ending, does he become superman and survive a million fatal wounds like he's in Mortal Kombat?

Wasnt' as bad as I thought from reading about it, but still wasn't enough to make me really want to see what happens in season 2. Thought the Mira stuff could have been handled better. Didn't see why once your partner or whatever is revealed to be the one conspiring against you they have to make him so typically "bad" like all of a sudden he's wearing a scowl and speaking with a Littlefinger-like sneer, like to make sure we know he's an eeeevil schemer. "YOUR COAL BOY FRIENDS GONNA BE DEAD INSTEAD MUAHAHAHHA". Instead they should have had it seem real practical to marry him like yeah I'm scheming my way out of this then later it winds up you see the coal boy get whacked and not expect it at least I think that would be better.

One thing I did like was as a protagonist getting to set up your own little red wedding sort of deal. That was kind of cool. And gently caress you gwynn your family is a bunch of dumb "bad guys" maybe look at that and see why I'm not just going to buy they will be at peace with me. Ludd ran around pretty well for a fat old dude with a hatchet in his back. Hope Beshka and Asher are reunited at some point, their relationship was the best part of this lackluster series. And I agree with the above poster Asher surviving getting run through like that was totally absurd even for a fantasy video game. They could have had the same scenes in general without that injury and it would have been better.

Not sure what the gently caress to make of Gared's stuff. But that woman is a nut didn't listen to a word she said. And knowing what I know about the future of the wall gently caress if I'm staying up there. We're outta here!

Like I said I'm probably not buying this second season unless it comes out and people say it's improved a lot. Also wish they had made the game in the GoT universe but way in the past that would have been a better idea.

Yeah. there's a gruesome scene where he gets impaled through the stomach all the way through and out the back, and the guy keeps twisting the blade around. Rodrick survives though

As much as I loving hated the season, really ended up liking the episode. The ending was dope as gently caress, would buy the sequel.

They finally got the painterly poo poo to look halfway decent.

Like, whatever. I accepted that there wasn't going to be a good conclusion to this poo poo long ago. What the gently caress was that guy in the north doing? Sure Mira accomplished nothing but what the gently caress did that guy do?

This episode gave me Ser Royland being a badass, Asher being a badass, and that black lady being a badass. I'm not sure I wanted more.

I walked away to go take a piss when the game prompted me to kneel for Mira's execution. Got back to see the swing because it railroads you eventually.

That was the best part of the game. Like I failed at least half the button prompts and it still continued just the same. Because who the gently caress cares. Your interaction is not needed.

Seriously, this episode almost redeemed the season in my eyes. Like it isn't good. But this was fun. I bet if the rest of the game was just switching between Asher, Geralt, and Mira it would have been much more better.

Finished it, that was laggy as gently caress on the PS4, for some reason. Married Morgryn, sacrificed Cotter, went with Asher but called off the poisoning, mostly because why not? I fought with FIERCE PASSION.

This really should have just gone between Rodrik and Asher's perspectives and ignored Mira and Gared. The GoT making GBS threads on the Forresters at the end was pretty funny though. I guess it was ok overall but man that went downhill from the first few episodes. The stupid thing is it's mostly six episodes of making GBS threads on the characters the player's supposed to identify with but there's barely no catharsis, and it's blatantly obvious that the olive branch gestures will never work. Except you're poo poo on more for not taking them after figuring that out.

The only thing I liked was Mira actually dying if you refused to marry the creepy guy. I was absolutely sure until the sword came down that the coal boy would volunteer to die in her place at the last second, since that would be just like how the Rodrik/Asher storyline managed to end in the same way no matter what.

I enjoyed it, just seeing how hosed a person is when they're in this world was fun, to me. Can absolutely see how and why it'd be frustrating, though, but I guess I also haven't had the benefit of seeing Telltale at their best to make a comparison of how relatively poor this is, as well.

It has nothing to do with the show other than one or two minor elements. You'll actually enjoy it more if you go in knowing nothing about The Walking Dead. Season 1 is critically acclaimed for a reason, 2 not so much. Play the first season at the very least.

Pretty much everybody agrees The Walking Dead Season 1 and Tales from the Borderlands are Telltales best works overall. Wolf Among Us is good but not great. Walking Dead Season 2 isn't terrible but is kinda mediocre and ends bad. This one is just blah for many reasons but the biggest is just how tiring it is to go through the motions of making "tough" grimdark decisions with no happy outcome for the hundredth game in the last 3 years. 90% of these decisions are always whether you choose to "sacrifice" a character for some greater good or straight up choosing between two characters (you can only save one!!!!) which begins to feel like really loving cheap attempts to manufacture the type of edgy drama I usualy associate with teenagers. Telltales really needs to explore a different mindspace, which is one of the reasons Tales from the Borderlands is uniformly regarded as so excellent and fun. Unfortunately, after an okay first episode, the second episode of the minecraft one was a rushed hack job so it'll probably be a while before a good one is made, and after many more Walking Dead and Game of Thrones iterations.

I've been watching youtube clips of this since it all began, treating it as a pseudo TV miniseries with a CYOA flair of others choosing for me, and my loving god am I glad that's all I treated it as and didn't pay a penny for this poo poo. And I say this as a big fan of both seasons of Telltale's Walking Dead. Because at least over there, its Season 2 had some logic behind being so railroaded (you're ultimately playing as a child and that definitely means limits when it comes to things like strength and just the chaos of the world).

To make it clear, I have no problem with grimdark. I have no problem with the uttermost depths of hell suffer porn whatsoever, hell Ramsay was my longtime favorite before the last season of the show started putting wayyy too much plot armor onto him for my tastes...

...but this is complete and utter bullshit. From what I can gather, it doesn't matter what you do because Ironrath always burns, more of your family always die with (not a problem) and with no satisfying actual resolution for their deaths (BIG loving problem). Mira's choices are useless in the end (gently caress throwing the dagger away and saving that contract, to make that dude think twice about threatening you in the end) and it's all just one big test of how far you're willing to compromise your ideals while dancing in King's Landing, and if you're willing to choose death or imprisoned making babies for a treacherous bastard. But hell, at least that bastard's capable! On the other hand you have at least one Whitehill always surviving to burn Ironrath to the ground, either kidnap Roderick's bethroed so she can forcefully make babies for either Ludd or his incompetent son...

...but you know what? I think I could even stand all of that - these are the two killing blows for me:

a) We've already loving seen all this happen in a show called Game of Thrones! It is utterly and completely unoriginal to go through these exact motions again! So why make a videogame, where you're supposed to have nothing but false choices of 'Well, maybe if Ironrath isn't as honorable as the Starks, you can yet avoid their fate'...and in the end the developers fart in your face and go: "Nah, gently caress you! You're an idiot for compromising your ideals, since you should enjoy the poo poo we give you and GoT actors get to judge you for it in the end ahahahahaha!"

b) This entire Season can't loving stand on its own to save its own life and is so blatantly written to be a prequel to their upcoming Season 2 that it hurts. Like...I can loving see the writers thinking: "Well, wait! But if we wrap most of the poo poo up this season, that means we'd actually have to come up with a completely original new setting and story for Season 2! Let's just prolong the readers' suffering and railroad them all into one big cliffhanger! Surely, we've broken them in by now and they'll totally take it up the rear end and not call bullshit!" Sad thing is, they're prolly right and most will keep buying Season 2 by this point lol.

The GoT show and books are things for masochists. Everyone knows this by now (and hell, I remain a big fan of them even now probably precisely due to there being solid cause and effect within them). But this game series really comes across a lot more like a thing designed for masochists, who also really enjoy railroaded and unoriginal videogame writing that is looking to pad itself out for multiple seasons so that Telltale can suck out more money.

It's funny when you think about walking dead season 1, because the story is still on rails, but what you're really controlling is your relationship to Clem, and only worked because that relationship was written very, very well. In Game of Thrones, I didn't care about anyone.

You're not also controlling Clem's relationship with Lee but every other character, i.e. just look at how divisive Kenny is. TWD Season 1 made your choices matter when it came to who Lee is and how he interacts with the other characters and responds to the events that unfold.

Ambassador to Moonlandia
Just finished the last episode...

Pretty much what I expected, nothing spectacular, a lot of things that were somewhat mediocre though.

The good:

-Mira's arc is over for me, she got beheaded (spit on the rear end in a top hat before getting the act, screw being stoic, I kneel but get some small revenge dammit! I like that at least one more of the main characters gets some finality to their arc based on your choice (I kind of count Asher/Rodrick since that's a Schrodinger Forrester choice on who lives or dies there, but I'm convinced the survivors roles for Season 2 will be a "fight on" speech before they die from the wounds suffered.

-The mercenaries were awesome, that chick with the spear gets top marks.

- I tried playing nice and conciliatory this whole season as Rodrick and get spat on for my trubles before dying for Asher. I wanted to MURDERINATE poo poo and poo poo got MURDERNIATED!

The :mediocre:

-The North Grove has something kind of interesting, and seeing the mind controlled army of twenty marching was kind of cool and if Game of Thrones has taught me anything, twenty good men is all you need to do anything!

- The epilogue of people talking about your house was kind of nifty.

The Bad:

-Despite the mediocre coolness of it, I still give no craps about the North Grove, the Forester bastards make no goddamn sense to me and I feel like the time spent with Gerald could have been better spent elsewhere in the series.

- I ONLY GET TO KILL ONE WHITEHILL?!? WHAT THE CRAP TELLTALE, IF I WANT TO BURN THIS MOFO TO THE GROUND AT LEAST LET ME TAKE EVERYONE WITH ME!

-Mira's story is over...

-The railroad was really bad this season.

Now time to work on my lengthy rant/post morten of what happened here this season and how things might be improved for the future, based only on my neckbeardy observational prowess :neckbeard:

Yeah, I was quite surprised to read this thread after playing Episode 6 and see goons just tearing it apart, absolutely insulted that a game company would release such a game. The gall!!

If you looked at this as a video game you were destined to be disappointed from the start. This is less a game and more of a Game of Thrones interactive story, and if you approached it that way it was very enjoyable...at least, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Sure, I would have liked to see my actions have more of a repercussion at times, but it didn't ruin it for me like it seemed to ruin the experience for others.

Then again I read and reread The World of Ice and Fire every night like it's a loving bible, I can't get enough of this series. And not just the main show/books/plot, but I especially love ancillary stuff like this, The Hedge Knight, Princess and the Queen, etc. so this really scratched the itch for me. I found it to be well acted and written, and I'm slightly embarrassed to say that Lord Morgryn's turn took me 100% by surprise. I wish I could have seen the contented smile drift from my own face when I realized how hosed I was in his litter. I felt so stupid for not having noticed it before and I gotta give it up to the game for outsmarting me/Mira, because even if telling him to go gently caress himself HAD been an option early on, I wouldn't have done it because I trusted him.

From an aSoIaF aspect, I thought this episode was huge because it introduced a new magic into the canon that we've never seen before in Lord Forrester's bastard daughter being able to control a small army. While it was not useful to Gared or the story's plot (lol, thought that might happen), I still found it fascinating to see that exist in Westeros. I mean, everything released in this game is seen/approved by GRRM, or at least D&D, right? It's canon now?
