What are you all bitching about, i mean SC is perfectly within acceptable parameters for creating a tripple AAA+ squared game,
just see how long everyone else has taken:

I mean, its absolutly 100% certain that these are actual development times, not time between releases in which said companies might have done something else...

The differences being that the other games had financial accountability and a publisher.

According to CR, he raised the money to exclude the publisher saying that they can create a better game, sooner by directing more funds to the actual development and gave us the plan on how to do it. Well they threw out that plan seeing how much money they were able to raise. Now, last I saw a picture of their new Santa Monica offices, there was some pretty pricey real estate involved along with some expensive furniture and pricey mocap actors.

So here we are 4 years in and we dont even have the base game they promised us that they would iterate on over time to make it into a AAA game. They seem to be working from the top down rather than the bottom up as initially planned.

For anyone who might be considering this: This game is currently a complete pile of poo poo and nobody should put money into this slow motion disaster until it is released and is good - both of which may never happen. Get a refund if you've backed already, stop funding the building of needless mocap studios and fulfilling Crobers dream of not being a Hollywood failure.

Even if this game might be fun, it's not fun right now and they're actively trying to rip people off with their ludicrously priced space ship jpgs. Don't help them do it.

If we were seeing this janky rear end poo poo "2.0"(wtf does that even mean? prototype 2.0? because it sure as hell is not a alpha.) a month after the kickstarter i might actually be interested and feel confident they could make a finished game. But lol 3, going on 4 years later and this poo poo is all they have.

I kind of understand spending retarded amounts of money on stupid poo poo like video games. But dropping 300-2500 bucks let alone 5, 10, 20, even 30k on something that dosent even exist is  :wtf: :psyboom:.

Could have been a lot more interesting if they'd gone for a mid-90s style FMV with digital sets. The writing would still have been poo poo but at least it would have had some novelty value.

The uncanny valley thing has been bugging me as well. Look at the picture on the magazine cover:

They quality and style of Hamill's face is on one level, while his helmet and his outfit are on a lower level - they don't match at all. It almost reminds me of one of those stands with the cartoon characters that have a hole cut out at the face so you can stick your head in it and take one of those dumb touristy pictures.

The whole thing is idiotic. A good script isn't made by length, but content. Having a script that could probably stop several bullets is idiotic unless you are some master storyteller. And if you think Chris Roberts is a good storyteller there might be something wrong with your brain and you should check it.

Besides the fact that people dislike many hours of cut scenes in games. Metal Gear Solid 4 had eight and a half hours of cutscenes and at least that had the distraction of being batshit crazy. Now you have to endure 10 hours by the guy who wrote Wing Commander the Movie.

Despite all of the team leads and specialists who've left or been fired it sounds like there are still dozens of certifiably well-qualified game devs working at CIG. The amazing thing is how effectively they've been stymied by incompetent management. That some of them have still been able to sneak in some quasi-functional, sort of interesting game elements should not be totally surprising.

What fucks with my head is that they've taken a sketchy scan of a 5'9" 64 year old man's face and just plopped it on top of what looks and moves like an NFL linebacker's body.

Let's hire an older dude who's one of the best voice actors ever but instead of having him voice an alien villain or something interesting let's have him be a muscular hero figure. With a scan of his face. And yes, Sandi, we'll digitally remove the facial hair he grew for the other space movie!

That was from PC Gamer US, dunno how the US version differs to the UK mag. Back in the day PC Gamer UK were a pretty reliable source of information and home to writers like Kieron Gillen and John Walker. So yes, they do have a pedigree. Though the sadly missed PC Zone was always funnier.

To be as reasonable as possible, it's likely that if the storyline is branching you might actually need that much script for it even though the player won't see all of it in one playthrough.

No way Chris-R is going to let a player miss out on any of his masterpiece, so he'll probably insert some sort of insane collectathon a-la the first Drakengard that players have to do in order to unlock the "true ending"

Only there's no way of course that Chris-R can compose the narrative payoff to make it worth it (no, not even in the 'The game loving trolled me! :psyboom:' sense that Drakengard achieved)

So they did limit quantity on the Phoenix sale after all (5000). Can't CCU to it, so no way to get LTI on these ones. People have to buy the full ship and it comes with 3 year insurance.
