Fuck the DH
I'm not going to get into the pecking order of various evolutions, especially since I don't know any of their names except what the dub called them(and I probably wouldn't even remember that if they weren't integrated into the catchy theme).

I'd rather they treat these characters honestly and not succumb to what is basically fandom pandering

Why would you bring back a property that has been settled business for well over a decade for anything but fan pandering? What unique new thing is there to say that couldn't have been said with all new characters?

Also, keep in mind that your opening argument is that S2 is much more popular in Territories That Matter, and so those fans will eventually be pandered to as well over the objections of those of us who liked season 1 more and besides thought this whole project was supposed to be a season 1 nostalgia trip.

The type of fan pandering I mean is to the obsessive minority who grumbles about how 02 ruined everything and want it stricken from canon and its characters destroyed or otherwise taken the piss out of. There's the kind of pandering that's ultimately harmless; see all the "Oh, Omegamon is awesome!" or Alphamon basically working identically to how he did in X-Evolution. That's fun. It's harmless.

But I've never liked "dragging the scrappies" because it's almost always catering to a small, loud subset of people, always obnoxious, and usually transparent to the point it affects the writing and becomes unnatural. It takes me out of the story, and just plain comes off as not writing for the sake of the narrative, but for scoring points with loud, bitter small people.

02 has lots of problems, and it remains to be seen what their being defeated by Alphamon will result in, but it's looking like a conscious storytelling decision that they're building up to. As for billing it as a "season 1 nostalgia trip", that is true, but the show is ALSO named "tri.", meaning that ignoring season 02 was never going to be a factor and that it was something it'd have to acknowledge one way or the other. Nor does it necessarily mean 02 elements or characters shouldn't be used, and judging by the first episode, that's happening anyway, due to the acknowledgement and continuity nods to a lot of them.

Lastly, when I talk about how successful 02 was, I'm doing so in the context of why Toei has no real benefit or advantage to throwing it out, ignoring it, or taking shots at it.

The one thing 02 did right is it ditched the masters being made in composite video. Granted, it took until episode 40 for it to happen, and when it does there's still a bunch of stock footage that Toei didn't have component masters of (and because this is TOei, there's no logic to it. There's stuff from the first third of Adventure that had component masters, while there's 02 stuff that's stuck with a composite source)

I like Imperialdramon and most of 02's digimon designs.

I did not like how, like with every other season, only two characters were of any importance at the end.

But I liked the designs. They were neat.

So, something cool I don't think I've seen mentioned yet about tri.:

In the evolution scenes, the Digimon get a silhouette covered in computer code. Pretty standard for Digimon, nothing special.

Except, this isn't just normal binary; there are 0s, 1s, and 2s. That's not binary code. That's ternary, or trinary code.

Digimon doesn't usually do anything like that. However, they have run with the idea, at points, that the Digital World was essentially created by the earliest computers, like ENIAC. There's a Soviet computer from 1958 called "Setun" that ran on ternary code...

Plus, of course, the obvious way tri. and trinary code go together.

I noticed the 2s but just kinda wondered what was up with that for a few moments before forgetting about it, this is some cool-rear end trivia. Though i'm guessing it's simply referencing the trinary code's name rather than its origins.

Then again it'd be interesting if Tai and Matt get in an argument about politics and Agumon and Gabumon just look utterly confused going "Well, capitalism is clearly flawed and dangerous, socialism is the only way to keep going forward, obviously?"

They did something like that in Tamers too. Basic Digimon were repented on Hypnos' systems as binary code, but when the Devas showed up, they communicated in hexadecimal because they were more evolved Digimon.

Pretty much.

My fondest Digimon memories are of Adventure. It's undeniably the better series. But nobody turns into Stingmon.

I liked DS but I couldn't get into Dusk/Dawn since they change a minor thing and all moves required MP or whatever they called the action points. It was always good to have a move that you could use without using your MP for the trash mobs.

I liked Dawn years ago, but I doubt I could go through it again because the thing that sticks out most clearly from my memories is the grinding. If they've cut it down, then I'm definitely interested, I suppose.

I was fine with the grinding in Dawn/Dusk, battles were usually over quickly and easily.

My problem with the game was how awful every single map was.

I wish that Digimon in these style of games had like, stat caps or something. Having everything just cap at 9999 makes everything feel so pointless, especially when you can poach good moves up and down evolutionary lines.

Like everything just devolves into a homogeneous mess. and it kinda sucks they keep doing it this way.

When pokemon/digimon shows/games like these came out I was just at that point where they felt a little too... kiddie for me. Looking back I always felt curious because I was always a gamer, always a techie, and loved animation but I never really got into them aside from a glance or two while flipping through TV channels.

I'm curious whether or not the 'new' digimon show would have any appeal to someone who wasn't a fan back during the original shows.

I seriously have no idea how a non fan would react to Tri to be honest. It's a sequel in every sense of the word.

What I think really made Tamers the best is that it was all clearly planned out. Unlike other series that all hit points where it was obvious that the writers were struggling to come up with the next step, they seemed to know what they were planning to do and how to get there.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I really like the composition of this poster. Lime green's normally a really ugly color, but they use it to get nicely eye-catching clashes against the shadowed yellows and purples of the characters, so it comes out looking really distinctive. It's simplistic, but effective.
