You can have such a game and make it fun. Look at Puzzle Pirate. Having a few people doing good at some puzzles make a real difference in ship combat and having a good navigator can make voyages nearly half as long. But then the game was balanced around such things from the very begining.

A BAD way to do it is like in Startrek Online. The "Scanning..." minigame was a pass/fail, giving the same result no matter how fast you did solve it, turning the thing into a fun tax. Its like the new "repair" minigame they are sporting. From the look of things its just a pick the best materials and click "repair" while it could be a fun minigame where you either quicken the repair time or lower the cost based on your success. I would totally be down to do the "Cargo Tetris" minigame if it mean i can get a 25% increase in cargo space without any cost if i do well or if i can actually make my cargo "lighter" for the flight model (representing it being well stowed) but there is no way i'm doing it if my friends are waiting onboard to fly the next mission.

But then your player would have a real impact on the economy, and we cant have that, cant we ?

This is true, mini-games would work. But I don't think CIG can do it competently.

My idea to severely and permanently reduce gold farming. (self.starcitizen)

submitted 19 minutes ago by Bornflying

Of all the things I have read about the possibility of a golf farming problem, nothing has addressed the ability of someone to create an account, farm/build up wealth, and then sell the account. This is the problem that can circumvent all the measures to prevent gold farming. CR has mentioned is a couple of times, but hasn't offered a solution.

Now, I'm sure plenty of people will hate this idea but I think it is necessary. The idea is simple: verify accounts periodically with credit cards. There is credit card verification processes out their that only work with the correct name matching the card, and this is the type I am suggesting.

Let's say once every 4 months your (or your parents) credit card/debit card info, along with the corresponding name, must be entered. 15 cents would be authorized and charged to the credit card (to cover a 10 cent typical CC transaction charge and overhead) only if the name of on the credit card matches the name on the Star Citizen account.

For kids under the age of 18 and not yet able to obtain a credit or debit card, their parents name would be the account holder in Star Citizen. Up to 6 accounts (to allow for multiple children) would be allowed per person, non-transferable.

If I were to try to sell someone one of my 6 accounts, yes I could give them my password and then they could change it allowing them access...but who would risk giving a stranger their credit card information to enter every 4 months? So 4 months would go by, then the RSI server would ask for the CC info and boom...locked out of the account and all related accounts flagged to be deleted for violating the terms of service.

Then all the other measures CR is taking like limiting daily UEC purchases, transfer taxes, and alerts when someone is trading a high amount of UEC for very little in return would really put a huge hurdle for would be gold farmers.

Maybe I'm missing something here. It seems to me the best and really needed solution.

Holy gently caress that was so boring... The way they did shields you need rouhgly 4 commands. Balance the shields, full foward, full backward and reinforce weakest facing.

If i had a say in this i would have done the shield system like they did in the old Robotech anime. Big energy circles you have to position manually around the ship to block shots. The "Shield Engineer" would play "eat the lazer" with it and the more laser he would eat, the more buff he would give to the other ship roles (Faster turret roation, better weapon damage, quicker ROF, ect).

Between combat he could play a "shield harmonics tuning" mini game, making his "energy circle" bigger or faster or more efficient for the next fight.

AND FOR gently caress SAKE STOP HIDING THE BEAUTIFULL SCENERY YOUR ART PEOPLE DESIGNED BEHIND FULL FACE SCRREEN. HUDS EXIST AND WHERE INVENTED FOR THAT VERY REASON.

Not that it in any way makes this better, but each time you turn on a comm array you get a beacon that takes you to an actual mission added to your mobiglass. If you hit f9 and click the scheduler you can see your missions and then you can turn on tracking to actually go to them. They are slightly more interesting than the comm arrays.

I agree which is why I'm not criticizing ships until they show up in game, but in this case they've basically taken a single-use torpedo bomber and given it top billing as a multi crew ship when it is singularly unsuited for that purpose. I thought that was stupid but held off until it was in the game, and hey- turns out It's just blitheringly retarded and the only reason they did it is because it's a very pretty ship that makes for good screenshots. It really shows (to me) that they're just kind of fumbling along with no real sense of how all this poo poo's supposed to fit together.

The retaliator is going exactly the same way as the cutlass, except this time they've been using it as their flagship for 2.0. In a metaphorical sense, it kind of is. It's very pretty and it is functional, in the sense that you can get in it and fly around. But there are no crew stations, none of the gun turrets work, it only has a S3 shield, the torpedoes don't seem to work unless their target is motionless, the pilot has no self-defense weapons, and on and on. In its defense people are saying things like "It's a bomber, bombers aren't good at fighting" but they specifically sold modules for non-bomber roles, and it's going to suck at every one of those too. Even if the turrets did work, they're in awkward positions where half their view is blocked by the ship itself, and there will never be a situation where one guy in a turret is more valuable than a guy in a hornet. It's a beautifully rendered but completely worthless flying target before it's even left the first alpha test. In every way except possibly delivering ordinance against ships that don't exist right now, it is completely inferior to the Constellation. If the Constellation were capable of carrying those missiles it'd be better at that job too. It would probably be redeemable with some major rework, similar to the Cutlass, except CIG has walled itself off from community feedback pretty thoroughly at this point.

Already moved to the Concern subforum. There's your answer.

Holy poo poo that's terrible. There's absolutely nothing about that which could even be considered remotely entertaining. There's no feedback, no situational awareness with which to ensure the operator can provide a meaningful contribution to the fight, no actual gameplay or interesting mechanic to speak of, and nothing that even remotely requires skill. It looks like busy work that could be better handled by an "equalize shields" button (which already exists). Mind you this is the CORE GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE that CIG is going for, with one guy flying the ship, other people manning the turrets, and other people loving around with engineering or whatever. I'm genuinely embarrassed for whoever thought that was a good idea that would be fun to play.

I know, and some people build whole cockpits in the garage for fun. Its a great hobby, but those people alone cant pay for the infrastructure of a AAAA (A ? How many A are we claiming to use for SC now?) MMO on the long term. You need a bunch of regular "Bro" logging a few hours after work one day out of two to pay for the bandwith. Every project or kickstarter that decided to pander "only to the hardcorest or the hard" sunk into oblivions after a few months.

Even EVE, the game more fun to read about than to play and know to have probably the highest difficulty cliff after Dwarf Fortress has streamlined his "new pilot" experience about every two years, each time making it easier and easier to join.
