Or would you say, "The game could've been better if they'd spent some of that $10M on better procedural generation or whatever-- I feel cheated."

1) So long as it is apparent that a reasonable amount of effort went to delivering the game as promised, who cares? If I'm not satisfied with the core experience and it's apparent that enough effort and resources were put into making something that could be enjoyed, well, there's not much that $10M in extra polish is going to do to change the fundamental issues I've got with it.

Round 2

A fully ladened Orion is parked nearby a small jump point. On the other side of the JP is a small UEE fleet.

The Orion is two large to navigate the JP, so 12 civilian Reliants are transfering the refined materials between it and the UEE fleet. They're on a rotation so only 6 are the vacinity at any one time.

The UEE fleet has also sent 2 fully armed F7A Hornets to over see the operation. They're seasoned combat pilots, so on a equal ship vs ship combat they will win.

The Orion is a civilian ship contracted by the UEE and they've also hired a merc Vanguard. It's a bit of a mix varient mostly Harbinger with the advanced sensor suite installed.

Now here's the twist, the refined material onboard the Orion is very volatile and explosive, it's also highly expensive weapons grade stuff. Any minor explosion could set it off, even an EMP may cause overloads that can trigger it. However the Orion crew aren't going to stick around if a fight begins. They will attempt to cease operations and flee the area; they're gonna panic however so this will be clumsy process and will take a bit of time.

The escorts will stick close to the Orion at all times and ward off any ships approaching the area.

The Reliants will continue operations and flee into the JP, unless they are attacked, then all of them will turn on you. Plus at least two of them will have materials onboard and be explosive. They aren't experienced combat pilots but are use to working as a team.

If one of them gets through the JP they will report the attack to the UEE fleet who will send reinforcements.

I will give it a couple of days for people to post their responses then close and announce what the reinforcements would be and respond. **edit** Bare in mind that this a small JP, so the reinforcements are limited to small ships, and it will be a quick response team so numbers will be limited.

Your a small operation trying to make your big score, so you will be limited to 12 ships, (to prevent swarms) but they can have maximum crew, and a $800 limit.

Your objective is to get as much of that sweet weapons grade material as possible.

You fail if the Orion is destroyed before removing the materials.

Oh and be aware the UEE would rather destroy the Orion than see that ore get in the wrong hands, if they see it going that way they might decide to go on the offensive.

Original OP:

Round 1

Fleet budget: $650

Location: Odin I - "The Belt"

You spot the Khartu-al first, but it vanishes (apparently modified for stealth.) Next your sensors detect the Merchantman with the Warden on her wing, moving at a medium pace through the asteroid field.

Under certain circumstances, and depending on your demeanor and behavior, the Merchantman's Captain may be willing to jettison some of the medical supplies he's carrying (if you aren't threatening, he may even invite you on board to trade.)

If the Merchantman reaches the Bengal carrier docked at the Odin IV fuel depot with all of her cargo you lose.

If the Merchantman's cargo is entirely destroyed, you lose.

Any amount of cargo obtained that exceeds the cost of your expenses is a win.

The biggest winner (as determined by me) picks the defending ships for Round 2 and then picks the winner for Round 3, and so on.

What if the ship was rotating to create a downward force perpendicular to the deck?

:colbert:

To be clear, I haven't seen it since it came out and thought it was poo poo then.

e: but then the small ship would still have the same rotational vector regardless - I was mostly thinking of the people standing on the deck.
