trapped in custom title factory, send help
I don't think I like the 5% proc weapon mods. They're too reliant on small random chances to be something you can tactically plan around, they don't seem to represent an actual loadout decision and more of a lucky crit perk thing. And crits already exist.

Watching the firaxis stream right now I notice they're using an updated build.

Ranger's Corporal ability is now
Blademaster - Deal +2 extra damage on all sword attacks.

also picked up on the grenadier abilities:

Grenadier abilities:
Squaddie:
Launch Grenade - The Grenadier uses a grenade launcher to fire grenades rather than throwing them. This allows for greater range and grenade capacity.

Corporal:
Blast Padding - ?
Shredder - ?

Sergeant:
Demolition - Unleash a volley of bullets at your target's cover, significantly damaging or destroying it. Deals no damage to your target.
Suppression - Fire a barrage that pins down a target, granting reaction fire against it if it moves, and imposing a -50 penalty to the target's aim.

They say several times that the 5% is just early game stuff. There are items with higher percentages possibly rewarded from higher difficulties as beagle theorises in his legendary mission video.

Oh I see! This must be the Bad Opinion Zone!
I like the idea of a pistol with the 5% insta kill mod, to go with my lightning hands sharpshooter.

Generally I suspect they don't want the mods to be too overwhelming, otherwise it becomes frustrating to plan because there are too many variables to consider. At the end of the day a sniper rifle just needs to be a sniper rifle.

Is it I that is insane... or the rest of the world?
Call me crazy but if the 5% also works with Lightning hands and Return Fire (and especially if it gets a percentage upgrade!), you could just go have a squad of Ocelots. Which I assume will be modded in anyway.

finished with the firaxis stream video:

Okay PCS aren't hot-swappable, same restrictions as weapon upgrades. You can replace them but not reuse them.

Under the armor menu in their version there's a new armor:
Resistance Warrior Kevlar Armor (unlimited), same look as the generic Kevlar Armor probably some minor perks.

Another possible attachment to the E.X.O. Suit is a flamethrower, no surprise.

The GREMLIN generally goes unnoticed by enemies, and cannot take damage or be destroyed. It will shut down if its owner is incapacitated or killed.

Seperate buttons for 'Make Utility Items Available', 'Make Armor Available' and you seem to be able to buy equipment in the loadout screen.

Weapon Upgrade:
Advanced Stock - Missed shots still deal 2 damage to the target.

There's advanced versions of weapon upgrades with better chances, stats, etc.

There's the "Guerrilla Tactics School" - train rookies to be a specific class, or add new combat tactics:

Combat Tactics spotted (rank restricted as before):

Vulture - 75 Supplies - Instant - Enemies drop an additional item with every timed loot drop.
Squad Size I - 50 Supplies - Instant - Squad size increased by 1.
Lightning Strike - 100 Supplies - Instant - Units gain +3 mobility for the first 2 turns of battle while the squad remains concealed.
Wet Work - 125 Supplies - Instant - +25% experience gained from kills.
Vengeance - 100 Supplies - Instant - If a squadmate dies or is critically wounded, gain random tactical bonuses for two turns.

Also listed: Integrated Warfare, Squad Size II, Stay With Me, Ranger: Hunter's Instinct, Sharpshooter: Deadshot, Specialist: Cool Under Pressure, Grenadier: Biggest Booms.

Overwatch while concealed won't activate unless you're revealed.

Armor is straight damage reduction, shredding will remove armor.

Ranger Sergeant abilties:
Shadowstrike - While concealed, gain +25 bonus aim and +25 bonus critical hit chance when attacking enemies.
Shadowstep - This soldier does not trigger overwatch or reaction fire.

After taking serious wounds soldiers can be take negative effects:
Soldier Shaken - Reduced Will - Soldiers with reduced Will are more susceptible to panic and Psionic attacks. Soldiers with a reduced Will can recover by participating in successful combat missions and staying healthy.

The memorial now shows more stats:

# of missions, kills, last day of service.

Days On Avenger - x Days
Lost To - Unknown Cause
Days In Infirmary - 0 Days
Attacks Made - 1
Damage Dealt - 4
Attacks Survived - 2

You can write a soldier's epitaph.

Actually just seen a couple videos of both the strategic game and the tactical game. I'm now super-pumped, but the one thing I didn't like was the idea of a global timer that gradually ticks down. I'm not really a fan of having an obvious time limit for a game (I wasn't a huge fan of it in the Total War games, where you have to complete your objectives by a certain year) and I wonder how long in terms of game time a typical game would normally last assuming you did a decent job of foiling the enemy plans.

i figured it was just a generic story beat/escalation that you had to prepare for, while dark events are smaller ones to spice things up

So, I was looking at the TvTropes page for XCOM 2, and something popped out at me. Quote:
At the start of the game and after years of ADVENT propaganda painting XCOM as terrorists, citizens will alert the authorities if they spot your soldiers sneaking around. However, by performing heroic missions like rescuing genetic abductees and exposing the atrocities the Aliens are committing, more and more civilians will refrain from calling for help, and may even do additional helpful collaboration.

So... what do you think about the ending part, the "additional helpful collaboration" bit?
Will civilaians on our side throw rocks at ADVENT soldier? Say that XCOM is in the direction away from us? What do you think?

Saw a hands-on demo.
1. You can get spotted by security cameras, but they can be hacked for bonuses like lowering all non-robot enemy will and direct control of a (random) enemy unit, which leads me to...
2. If one XCOM soldier can see it, and you have a Specialist, it can be hacked (barring robotic enemies, which require a upgrade).

I like that squad sight was so good even after nerfs that they just made it the default sniper skill. That plus the pistol being a free action might finally tempt me into having some mid range snipers.

found most of the GTS Tactics:

Integrated Warfare - 150 Supplies - Instant - PCS bonuses are significantly improved.
Squad Size II - Squad size increased by 1.
Stay With Me - 150 Supplies - Instant - Soldiers will be more likely to bleed out than to die outright.
Grenadier: Biggest Booms - 75 Supplies - Instant - Explosives can inflict critical damage
Ranger: Hunter's Instinct - 75 Supplies - Instant - Attacks against flanked enemies deal +3 damage.
Sharpshooter: Deadshot - 75 Supplies - Instant - Bonus 10% chance to critically hit enemies

only unknown one left is Specialist: Cool Under Pressure

oh during the firaxis stream the rocket launcher caused a crit so sounds like Grenadier: Biggest Booms was enabled

For my first Enemy Within playthrough, I decided to not take Squadsight on my snipers. Snap Shot is actually pretty drat good and totally viable since -10 aim is basically a non-penalty to a sniper, so you end up with snipers that function as mid-ranged sharpshooting skirmishers instead of artillery pieces sitting on a building in your deployment zone.

The arguments over snap shot and squadsight have gone up and down the block so many times now there's a nice little ditch. Them making squadsight the default perk is a much better choice overall since that's sorta what made snipers stand out from every other class.

I think it replaces the Doom Counter (countries that withdraw from XCOM) from the first game. If the track reaches full the Ethereals became all powerful or something. I noticed in Beagle's videos that the second mission set back progress by 1 on Avatar, so I guess you can harass and set back the Doom Tracker to offset alien progress. Like retaking countries in Long War.

I agree, actually, especially since the other perks like Lightning Hands seem geared towards filling that desire for a mid-ranged sharpshooter that a snapshot sniper used to fill.
