So I've started borrowing single seater craft. It generates just as much comedy as the multicrew stuff. You wait for them to open the craft's doors/bay/whatever which unlocks it for everyone. You let the ladder come down, or whatever, and then action climbing in before they can. Got an avenger this way and the dude was trying to play it off: "It's okay. I didn't want to fly it anyway. I'll just look at stuff back here."
