If they get rid of the "ww2 in space" stuff and expand on this example of "battlebots in space", I'm totally back on board with this project.

aleksendr posted:That thing, like most modern trucks, has more visibility than the Freelancer. This is true. It's probably just another instance of SC having shifted the meaning of “realistic” and “fidelity” to mean “matches unresearched and uninformed assumptions” (manly based on cinematic conventions of what looks neat rather than on what makes sense). Of course, a lot of this once again comes back to the basic design conceit of having WWII dogfighting at machinegun ranges only it's set against a star backdrop rather than the English countryside. The instrumentation and third-party guidance was crude enough to often only be complementary to the MkI eyeball, and speeds and ranges were never really large enough to require more than that. Then add the basis for the assumptions on top of that: the dogfighting of the era has been prominently displayed; the way cargo planes worked has not, so the (very shallow and distant) personal experience of air travel has to fill the gap. It probably isn't coincidental that the navigation aids of the time — level and direction hold, the odd navigational beacon — are the ones effectively being emulated by having HUD waypoint markers and directed travel. Just jumping 30 years ahead in terms of tech, and we're already at that point where it has become more a case of monitoring automation and only responding to anomalies, but recreating that in a (space) game would mean KSP-style IVA controls, which aren't exactly everyone's cup of tea. SelenicMartian posted:B-wing looks neither cool nor functional. I will fight you. Iglocska posted:There's a reason why that turd doesn't get a lot of screen time. Yes: the model was hard to bluescreen properly and they had no actual character action going on in them that required them to be shown to the audience to keep the battle flowing. the new Freelancer would be fine if the pilot seat was right next to the window, but instead there's a massive empty table between the seats and the view port. Another excellent design from CIG Wow

For those of you still taking flak over your comments that the big Star Citizen reveal was nothing more than a carefully scripted CryEngine mod, I did some research so you don't have to. As I said before, it’s nothing more than a glorified CryEngine mod. In fact, there is a tutorial on how to do it, as well as an entire thesis paper on it. And in case you missed it. ps: The evidence
