The JBL lightbulbs wouldn't be just in the ceiling. I'd have them in lamps around the house. Not as a main sound system but for get togethers or if I'm cooking etc. Since all my lights have some sort of lamp shade, I could see it either making a mushy lovely treble-less mess of reverb or possibly making a good direction less ambient source of background music. Of course only the finest audio DVD mix of Anal oval office's "40 more reasons to hate us" will be used to test it. Edit: some more reading, so they work in pairs and do stereo separation. You can add up to 8 of them and can be used for whole house audio. They are a 1.75" driver that does 100hz up, and also have a subwoofer adapter that syncs your existing sub to them. No need to hate. I likely have the most capable sound system on SA, but the sound system isn't in my kitchen. A whole house audio solution that disappears completely is a pretty good solution. With that said, I don't like the idea of another app on my phone to control poo poo. Either integrate with google/nest, or atleast be part of a standard that isn't disappearing anytime soon like Sonos. Also, bright colours, or colours at all don't lend well to movie viewing. You can have good interior design, or good video and sound reproduction, the two don't really go together easily. Hey jonathan (or anyone else) What amps would you recommend to pair with the kef ls50s? In both power/performance and appearance? Full disclosure: I don't tend to agree with you that all well designed rooms break best practices of proper sound so I may value aesthetics a bit too heavily to you. I'm looking for a tabletop setup for my office. Source will be digital, cd, and vinyl. All music, no video.

Those are some swanky-lookin' speakers. How loud are you hoping to play, how much money are you willing to spend, and what kind of aesthetics are you looking for? I'd go for something like the NAD C316, it's got enough power (2x40W continuous), it's slim and it's rather discreet if you get it in black.

Something that seems to fit with $1500 worth of bookshelf speakers. So maybe it's $1000? If the Parasound A23 is the best option, cool. Others have it in my office with the same speakers and it's nice enough. The amp isn't really going to change the sound much, these days even the cheap chinese t-amps perform well. First make sure you know what inputs you need (Phono pre-amp ? Air-play ? Bluetooth ?) Thanks man, I was given a set of the Emotiva speakers a few years ago for my office and they really sucked, so I'm kind of down on them. But I did like the DAC I got, so maybe I'll just repurpose that.

I need a TV to go with my new console so here are my specs if anyone can recommend something: -Approx. 8 ft viewing distance, need a wide angle - what's the latest distance/resolution chart? -Wireless signal available but the console will do all the Netflix duty so smart functionality not necessary -I have a set of Logitech Z5500's that no longer make sense with my PC but the remote is questionable / MIA and the control pod is meant for arms-length. Would rather have a sound solution I can set once and does not need its own remote. If those are still significantly better than I'm liable to get out of a sound bar then I'll use them because hey, free!

You should really post in the HDTV thread: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3523461 You'll need to give size and budget. At that distance I would get the 55" LG 1080p OLED. It can be had for 1400 or so. Best picture on the market imo and the curve is subtle. Relevant to this thread I find the thin nature of the set to be impressive. For the speakers just get a harmony hub and program it how you want. They did an awesome job of taking the circuit tech and timeless aesthetics of their 1970's CR-xxxx series and bringing them into the 21st Century and adding things like DACs and optical/USB capability. Also, if you google the amps individually you'll notice that they all sell for anywhere from $200 to $600 less via other online retailers than what Yamaha charges on their site. I'm sure a Peachtree of some sort would also look nice between those KEFs.

Looking for some opinions on what to upgrade next. I just moved into a house so I'm messing around with new placements for everything. Currently I have a 3.0 setup, but this summer I plan on running wiring for the rears once I get the front placement locked in. Currently: 42" Vizio m420kd 1080p LCD Denon avr 1611 Pioneer sx-820 Pro-ject Carbon RPM Pioneer sp-f551-lr Andrew Jones Towers Pioneer sp-c21 center Sansui SP-2000 Amazon fireTv AppleTv I have a powered sub in the garage, but haven't got it out yet. My first thought was to upgrade the tv to a bigger size since now I can accommodate, but it sounds like I should wait. We are happy with picture quality so would just be a size difference. The other thing I was going to look at was upgrading my receiver. My old set up had two different areas for the vinyl and home theater, but now it's going to be in the same room. If I ran the turn table through the same receiver I could use one set of speakers instead of two which would free up some space in the room. On a bit of a sour note, this is the second time I've damaged a driver in those speakers (last time was a woofer), so I'm starting to think they over-rate their power handling.
