Most of the Oculus demos/games from 6+ months ago no longer work due to how they api has changed. Programming is hard? With respect I think there is more to it than that. The reason most demos don't work is because of the way Unity works with the SDK (or the SDK works with Unity), it is totally irrelevant to this. Most demos just aren't worthwhile to update for their creators, but some do update and their demos continue to work. There are devs on Steam saying 'can't be arsed updating sorry, thanks for the cash.' - I'm talking about Unity because the vast majority of stuff out there is created in it. My credentials: I am currently co creating a VR game (I am not a coder, I am helping in other ways) and it's had to be updated many times to cater to the SDK, which it has been ad it continues to work fine. I think the sudden dropping of VR is much much more likely to be because of how ill the game makes you feel when you: Climb ladders Sit in a chair Get in a buggy Do anything My gut feeling is this bit them in the rear end as far as VR is concerned, it's a problem with the game design rather than the engine or SDK, I can still play Far Cry just fine in VR if I want, although it's been a while.

This is brilliant. I think next thing to do is to phone CIG directly, using a skype recorder, and troll the fuckers into refunding you. e: If it's illegal to record a call in your state, I can host the skype call and record it from the UK e2: This offer is open to anyone seeking a refund. e3: If you feel uncomfortable talking to them, I will quite happily speak on your behalf. fuctifino fucked around with this message at 05:04 on Jan 3, 2016 |

Yet another good reason to legalize weed. I agree regarding the "immersive" animations, but that is trivial to work around with instant transitions, or electrodes attached to your brain.

The animation where you get in your ship is needed as that is when your character becomes the ship, so they have to keep a few things like that. I tried my hand at a serious post, it didn't go well so I am going to agree with you from here on out because it's friendlier that way and I like the cut of your jib

I agree regarding the "immersive" animations, but that is trivial to work around with instant transitions, or electrodes attached to your brain. Chris will never get rid of those animations. He's made the word "immersion" one of his cult trigger words, and even gone as far as redefining exactly what "immersion" means so that his sect identifies the term with those unnecessary animations. The entire visual design of the game (at least in recent cuts) was not only not designed for VR - it was designed to simulate what a VR experience would be like using just a regular flat monitor. It was literally designed against VR. Thus, as others have mentioned, consider the head bob animations, the weird looking around crap when you're climbing into the ship, the bizarro-world animations when you get into and out of a bunk or cargo crawlspace, etc. Do you know how much of that would have to be ripped out of the game?

Seriously the headset devs are making it so any idiot coder that is capable of drooling on the keyboard can hack it in, it just might suck. Hell most engines are just having built-in support at this point.

Yup, my feeling is that in his quest for 'immersion' with all those 20 second long 'Hey it looks like you're climbing a ladder' animations he's made it impossible to use VR, which is the best way to be 'immersed' in any game. I legit love that h aha
