I don't recall any events like that being in the game (the base game anyway). Manifest Destiny just covers what is part of the United States as we know them today, they don't add any part of Mexico. All I can think of is two territories that technically belong to Texas being under the control of Mexico at the beginning of the game - Laredo and El Paso(?) - and if you annex Texas they become cores for the USA and can be reacquired once Manifest Destiny fires if you didn't grab them earlier.

Only other thing I can can think of is that if you controlled them long enough, and tool control before there was really anyone living there, they will eventually become "yours" once enough people from your accepted culture live there.

I'd hold off; Wiz said he'd be on it after Christmas, so I would expect another week or so for the fixes.

Well, i suspect he'll do it on wednesday? As thats the only day off ;)

According to the v2 debchat, podcat fixed the russia bug, so hopefully we'll adress the complaints asap.

The situation in Africa imploding and being almost impossible to manage shouldn't happen until the 1950s, I hope they'll deal with this bug asap.

I tried to do this in my own USA game yesterday and ended up starting a crisis war. USA, France, Russia, Austria v. UK, Prussia, Ottoman Empire. We lost because the UK keeps like 60,000 troops in Canada in 1845.

Also, Wiz et. al., this is probably way beyond the scope of what you guys are doing for this patch, but would it be possible to add a third level to the event system? There are still some annoying USA events that are triggered per-province and it would be nice if they were per-state.

If there's still annoying events, list them and I might get to it. I don't have time to hunt for them.

Bang! You're dead.
This week's Stellaris DD has been posted, covering Fallen Empires. Can't post a link but should be easy enough to find on the front page of their forums.

Doesn't go into a whole lot of detail yet but looks tantalizing; another unknown variable to mix things up.

I do wonder if it's possible for a fallen empire's worlds to linger around as independent colonies or even revert to pre-space flight planets for you to grab and exploit without having to actually fight them. Kind of like finding "precursor" artifacts or something. Fallen empires themselves can even roar back to life on occasion so having them mix things up while they go after what was once theirs could be fun to watch.

It does seem a bit odd that you can have all sorts of flavours of fascism, space monarchy, space oligarchy, space corporate democracy, but you can't be any flavour of benevolent utopian space communist like in star trek or a variety of other utopian scify tropes. And "collectivist" pop ideology = tolerance to slavery ????

I had actually thought the exact same thing and it wouldn't be that weird even for a company as cool as Paradox to accidentally whitewash Communism into necessarily being a totalitarian Soviet-style state but let's at least give them a chance before getting all buthurt over my utopias :frogbon:

This is why when visiting the Paradox forums you only skim the subject lines, or even just stick to reviewing the thread authors. Then when you find the thread you were looking for, simply select the Dev post only display feature and you're all set.

Unless you're not looking for dev post.

But why would anyone ever do that?

I take it that some of the fixes will only apply to new games? Or will the missing piece of the Russian army suddenly pop into existence, throwing the country's finances into chaos while the world burns as the diplomatic AI quickly tries to right itself?

Basically they released a matrix of government/society types and named most of them, the rest were easy to infer. By pick and mixing them you can come up with just about any classic scify society, which is cool, but people noticed that there didn't really seem to be anything for some sort of post-money star trek utopia or Culture style society. Plus in a single pre-alpha version tool tip some collectivst race had a high tolerance to slavery. This all points to a clear fascist plot within Paradox to smear any sort of socialist or "post-capitalist" ideology in the game and is all part of their neo-liberal corporate propaganda agenda that started with Victoria 2 and their adoption of the forced malware known as "steam".

This all require multiples threads arguing over what communism is, if contemporary human capitalism is obviously the only logical form of resource distribution that any space-faring race would surely realize, and how including any sort of worker-owned mode of production in the game is basically pissing on the grave of all of Stalin and Hitler's (national SOCIALISM) victims.

I'm a little disappointed at the society matrix's options, but I don't think it's an an-cap plot from within paradox to smear the good name of marx.

I think the powder keg started with people being incredulous that post-scarcity is a decision to turn on and off somehow, and only getting a peak at max-collectivist modifiers, which is a hivemind that allows slave castes with no penalties and people assuming that means communist got shorted, even though we don't know anything about what sort of modifiers moderate collectivist get and its still in alpha anyway.

Fallen Empires are isolationist and will look at newer species with disinterest or outright contempt. Diplomatic attempts are futile and they will most likely attack any unknown ships entering one of their remaining systems.

A post-scarcity Star Trek utopia would require the replicator technology and probably a bunch of other poo poo, exploring that avenue in an expansion would be cool though. You could kinda mix it up a bit by making it a deliberate switch the player makes to transition their economy to be entirely energy based rather than food/metals. Introduce some other mechanics on top of it and there's potential for some some pants on head crazy shenanigans.
