I'm bummed I won't be able to make the Conan tour, but I might be able to hit up that Dragged Into Sunlight/Primitive Man show in NYC. Probably gonna get pretty nasty in there.

I'm curious if there are any stoner/doom "jam bands" for lack of a better term. Not in terms of the actual songs, but if you think of bands like the Grateful Dead or the String Cheese incident and how a lot of it is just them jamming out and improvising and all that. Is there anything like that with crushing fuzz and downtuned instruments?

Toner Low has that kinda feel too. I did stumble upon a Polish doom jam band months ago that I will never be able to find again, but all of their albums and performances were improvised. e: I actually found it in 5 seconds by googling Polish doom jam: https://bosenoise.bandcamp.com/ Personally don't care for it but it fits the criteria

I like that they mix it up a bit, with some more aggressive percussion under the droning guitars at times, and there was a nice cello(?) arrangement on the last track that complemented the atmosphere as well.

Mars Red Sky has an new EP out in a week and new album out in March. I highly recommend them if you are into spaced out psychedelic fuzz stoner doom rock with nice higher pitched vocals (nothing crazy, the dud is just kind of small so think Paul Simon's register). They can be very accessible and still really heavy. Here's a video for a song off the new EP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI6Uj61gFFw Here's an instrumental track off the last Album, it's based on a super simple riff that is so good, when they finally get heavy with it at the end it's very satisfying. The melodic wah pedal guitar work on this really nice too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrQ9yclWg8w Start here with their self titled album if you want to do it right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uyxZZTodsE I was in love with the music within the first 30 seconds and the vocal treatment just made it better. They are a great band and every so often I feel compelled to try to let people know about them.

Am I nuts for thinking Indian's From All Purity is the best album from the last couple of years? I love the noise experimentation and production, and the songs are crushing yet oddly catchy at the same time. I know it got love from some critics, but I've seen a fair number of people express their dislike for it as well.

Laserface posted:I lied. It wasnt as bad as Primus jamming for 2 hours. I can buy this. Jam bands are almost (almost as in maybe there's one out there that's okay, not as in I know of any) universally boring and I really cannot understand how there are so goddamned many. It's even worse when you're friends with people in jam bands because then you're going to feel obligated to attend a few shows. I remember one night I was out at a bar and unbeknownst to me it was jam band night. So I've got two beers in and this whatever starts playing. I don't last another five minutes before telling my friends I have to get the gently caress out of there because there are some people starting to noodle dance. They don't get how I can listen to things like Dopesmoker or any given Yob album but not jam bands.

Its especially lovely when Primus have a pretty good catalog of hits they could be playing and people presumed they would play. Like, every good song was written and re-written and jammed on hundreds of times to make it what it is. no one really needs to be exposed to the jamming part of the process with no definite outcome.

Anyone going to Levitation/Austin Psych Fest this year? Probably already mentioned but it's a pretty good lineup including Sleep, Sunn, Boris and a bunch of other good poo poo. I heard the prices are going up at some point, anyone have an idea of when that might happen? I'm almost sure I'm going but can't get the tickets until I can confirm.
