A few of my apps have the option for Google Now cards, which I enabled, but I've yet to see them show up. I doubt any developer will figure out a useful way to implement them and we'll just turn them off like app notifications

I never had excessive app notifications, I'm just afraid that spotify would start pushing bad music onto me because of this feature for example

e: like, oh you're traveling through the countryside? here is some awful country band that paid us for ads.

Podcast Addict has been suspended from the Play Store due to "sexually explicit material provision of the Content Policy".

Maybe this is just an automated content flagging flub, or maybe the people behind BeyondPod or Pocketcasts have something to do with it. :tinfoil:

EDIT: From the Podcast Addict Facebook page:

quote:

Like any app displaying 3rd party content, Podcast Addict allows you to see/watch/listen to explicit sexual content if you want to. The same applies to any web browser, podcast app, news app, search engine, ... But like those other kind of apps, podcast apps also allows you to get informed, to learn things, to be entertained, ...

Podcast Addict was the #1 podcast app on the Play Store with 4M downloads, 175K reviews and an average rating of 4.6/5 The app almost had 500K daily users and more than 1M episodes were listened to everyday through the app...

Did somebody say news?
Anyone know how to get google now to stop feeding me 3-5 ESPN articles?

I have sports turned off. Yesterday I lowered espn.com on google news to "rarely" (maybe it needs more time to update?), but I can't see a way to actually remove it there.

I never visit ESPN.com, search for anything sports related, or click on sports related news articles so I have no idea where it's coming from.

It's probably from trying to figure out how to block it.

I've only ever googled a few football scores, and a pile of my cards are NFL related. But it only ever shows Jets stuff, despite looking up other teams.

At least it does show me hockey stuff.

So VLC for android on my tablet sometimes decides to stop remembering last played position in a video, and has to be force stopped and restarted before it starts functioning properly again. Anybody knows what's up with that?

Does anyone know of an ebook reader for children? I would like something that I could upload my own ebooks to. I use Moonreader for myself but I thought there might be something that is simpler for kids. In the meantime I'll just use moon reader for the little ones too.

Didn't Gentle Alarm break with the changes to the alarm API in Lollipop? I thought it did but maybe there's been an update since then. I quite like Gentle Alarm despite not having used it since Timely came out but no matter how nice it is to use it is so goddamn ugly that there's just no way around it. It's simply too ugly to use.

I use it every day on my Nexus 5 (6.0.1) but it sure as poo poo is ugly. I wish there was something that had the same functionality, both the pre-alarms and simple puzzles, but actually looked like a 2016 app.

OK I somehow just stumbled onto the YouTube Music app that I downloaded forever ago and holy shitballs it is good, better than Pandora.

My thoughts on why alarm apps are so varied but so lovely is that everyone wants the same alarm app. We all want it to be simple, with a simple, modern UI that just does the things it needs to do. Of course the stock Clock.apk that comes with the phone is a little too barebones. It's close to what an alarm app should be, it just needs this one feature...

And that one feature is different for everyone.

It could be alarm sync, pre-alarms, alarm dismissal challenges, Tasker integration, NFC tag support, or a million other things that every alarm app specializes in which is how you get this situation. You've got two apps that are for people who snooze too much, or claim to monitor your sleep cycle, or read you the news in the morning, and but none can attract enough of a base to make continuing work on it to be worthwhile and the developer (rightly) loses interest then it becomes dated and users start looking for another app with their pet feature and here we are.

It seems to have a lot better recommendation engine than the Google Music app and it has a lot broader selection of songs by obscure artists and DJs but is really good and high quality suggestions.

My biggest problem with the Google Music recommendation is there is too much and poorly defined choice, what the hell does Having Fun at Work -> Dancing At Your Desk mean? YouTube Music is more here is some music you will like, we swear.

I think this is pretty much it, with the addition that alarm clocks are so simple and common place that it traps people into thinking they can just eyeball the design. So they end up with a mess that makes it exponentially harder to add that legion of little features.

On a sidenote, I wonder how many requested user features come down to the user trying to fix the wrong end of a problem, like demanding ever more complex keep-you-from-going-back-to-sleep features instead of just going to bed earlier.

Anyone use any life tracking apps/tools. I want to do a Feltron style annual report. I'll be using Zenobase as my depository for my data so the apps will need to be able to export to .csv or .json.

I'll be using things like last.fm, Lifesum, Moves, Googlefit etc. but is there a customisable tracking app like Reporter for Android?

Also open to any other tools/suggestions that other people use for this kind of stuff.
