Hey! Yeah, I'd like to do that if it's able to be arranged from within Japan. I did some research before Christmas and any attempt to send alcohol internationally would have bankrupted me. If you or someone else can help me out, lemme know.

Vic Tokai's print ads (which were, I think, pretty much their only ads, right?) always felt really low-budget to me, even by contemporary standards. Given that there were only two given days you could call to see how good the game sounded, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they'd had in-house staffers work the weekend to answer phones and hit the play button on a CD of the game's soundtrack.

Johnnie Walker Red, Black and Blue Label are pretty common at most mid-sized liquor stores in Japan. If you want, I can give you a rough price estimate with shipping too.
Having it sent from within Japan is probably the best option that doesn't require amputation of limbs to pay for it.

I'm pretty out of the loop on GCCX/your subbing efforts nowadays. I'm watching the recently released Mario Maker challenge. Have you guys translated the episode where Arino makes some levels too shown early in the episode.

I checked sa-gccx.com and it doesn't seem you have but I don't know how accurate the site is in this day and age.

e: V - Right, thanks!

Is this one of those games that is still in English, even in Japan?

Am I gonna get to hear Arino say "I don't want to be a butterfly"?

Sure - if you can quote me a price for Black Label + shipping (and including a message too if possible), that would be great.

They hired veteran voice actors for the Japanese version, so it's a step above the English one, really.

Can't wait for the Mansion of Hidden Souls episode.

This was the episode intro where they mentioned the US Discotek release of the Retro Game Master DVD.

From the New Year's Special soon after:

Just to let you know, I've asked AP Ishida about where/who to send it to (and if it's okay to send liquor to begin with). She gave me the details and said she'll make sure Arino receives it.

Speaking of logistics to get things into Asian territories, our good friend and his posse takes another trip to Southeast Asia in this two-hour special!

The picture is what I found when I googled "Arino Vietnam" Consider this a shameless promotion for Indonesia-based Arino Mangan Photography and their photography for events like weddings in places like Vietnam

I think that's about as much as they do. You can even catch some episodes/events where the output has jailbars (a common flaw when modding a famicom for AV output) or has a ton of signal interference. If you look at the back of the consoles, a lot of the wires are usually taped in to attempt to keep them secure.

It reminds me of how James "Angry Videogame Nerd" Rolfe for most of the earlier episodes, captured all of his game footage with a straight-up DVD Player/Recorder because it just works with none of the bullshit you can get from a complex PC capture setup prone to dropping frames and outright crashing and corrupting your entire recording up to that point.

a couple weeks ago but i'm pretty sure this is still how he does it. he's got a making-of video where he walks through the creation of a Nerd episode and he shows off massive binders full of DVDs for every game he's recorded so that he can go back and grab them if he needs them

it's not super recent, but it's recent enough to assume that that's still how he does it
