LOL, I never heard about this before:

quote:

LOAF> Can you tell us what "Silverheart" was going to be?
Chris_Roberts> Loaf – Silverheart is cool _ I still have (and own) that IP and want to make it one day. Michael Moorcock (of Stormbringer fame) created the world and wrote the script.
Chris_Roberts> We were in production on Silverheart at OSI before I left but we could never get the tech to work. We needed a livign breathing city – something Assasin's Creed does so well nowadays

quote:

You might be thinking of SILVERHEART, which was originally done for Origin (Electronic Arts) and then taking over by Digital Anvil (essentially Microsoft) but by last year they had disappeared and I really have no idea any more what's happening with the game, which exists in very sophisticated script form, with the entire game mapped out. They had done about $2m worth of work on it — some superb fresh artwork, great new engines — when EA pulled the plug. D.Anvil presumably now own the rights, but I don't know what's happened to them!

A fascinating setting marred by dull characterizations and a tiredly familiar rpg-cliche storyline make this book a profound disappointment. Silverheart is an ode to the typically unusual Moorcockian genre with none of the charm or the lyricism that infects the pages of an actual Moorcock novel. One gets the idea while ploughing through the pages that Moorcock's contribution to the book consisted solely of a few notes scrawled on the back of a napkin, giving the finished product the necessary decor yet none of the necessary structure.

quote:

Initially this story posed some interesting characterisations and settings, hinting at the typicaly Moorcockian underlying brooding nature of the realm, its history and the background of the characters. However as the plot unfolds you might begin to feel that opportunities for the usual intrigue and depth, common in other Moorcock tales, are missed out on and the characters fail to achieve their potential. Not only that, the overall plot seems to suffer from a common problem found in a lot of 'trash fantasies' - things just happen for no apparent reason other than to satisfy some weak twist in the story. And as for the conclusion? what weak nauseating trash!

quote:

I do not believe it is accurate to blame the failings (if so they are) of this book entirely on Storm Constantine. This was a collaborative effort. While Constantine may have essentially written the story, she was in liaison with Moorcock for its conception through to its completion, and Moorcock would have undoubtedly read all the drafts and given his approval, seeing as it has his name on the cover. I doubt Moorcock would have blindly allowed Constantine to write what ever she wanted, at the sake of his own reputation.

As for my opinion of the story, I found it a tad laboured and in places quite boring. Conversely, I found it in places unusual and interesting. In other words, it is an uneven story and thus difficult to review or to describe. I will however say that there are much worse examples of fantasy on the market. Silverheart is just unremarkable, but passable. I found Silverheart more enjoyable a second time. There is a lot of detail to absorb - possibly too much, as Storm backfills at every opportunity she gets, laying it on a little too thickly. Probably it could have used some slimming down.

Tijuana Bibliophile posted:

Just got my Lexip Professional 3d Mouse from Amazon today. I had to pay about $20 in import taxes which sucked. Mouse, cross-pond shipping and taxes now cost me a total of $100.

For those who missed the thread's earlier Human Interface Device adventures, the Lexip Professional 3d Mouse is a mouse which sports a gamepad-style thumbstick

And also can be "tilted" to allow for another two axes of control:

It's primarily intended for 3d graphics applications such as CAD and 3dsMAX and what not, but seems to have captured some Citizens' attention due to its potential for controlling spacey boats.

First impressions:

Actually, I'm pretty impressed. The drivers work well and allow for application specific configuration. Presets are available for many applications too: in Chrome for instance, the preset config is thumbstick as real smooth up/down scroll when stick is moved forward/back, and tab switch when moved up/down. The deadzone is configurable of course. Mouse movement is buttery smooth with config available for 800-3200 DPI. I haven't found any use for the tilt axes yet, but I'd wager they could come of use for orientation or rotation in 3d work, when you've mapped the thumbstick to other stuff.

On the minus side, the right and left mouse buttons end about 1cm before the mouse does - using this with hands much larger than mine wouldn't necessarily be very fun. The forward/back buttons need to be pressed a bit too far to register as input, which feels a bit odd. Also, the thumbstick can be pressed for yet another button-style input, but it needs to be pressed pretty hard which makes me skeptical any user actually found a use for it - not really a minus though, as the function can be safely ignored.

Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase thus far, and so will keep it and not sell it to any Arena Commander aficionado. It has some kinks that I'd love to see worked out - since this is Lexip's first offering though, I'm confident they will continue to develop awesome mice and win the Citizen community by storm!

...that is, if they weren't a small french startup that ended up bankrupt years ago. As far as I can google, no other mouse quite like it is out there - for those interested, the Lexip Professional 3d Mouse is available on Amazon for $50 plus shipping. Order while unsold stock remains!

I'm interested in how you think this mouse works with other games. it's hard to separate fantasy from reality in this thread, but isn't lexip out of business and not supporting this mouse any more?
