I played online for the first time today and I learnt that when there's any pressure whatsoever I can't combo for poo poo and mess up the most basic things. Fighting actual people is way more fun than the computer though, and I really like just playing through survival mode and stuff anyway. Also, I got no lag and the game only matched me up with people around my skill level which was nice, but matchmaking was way too slow. Hopefully, I just chose a bad time to play or something because I don't like waiting 10 minutes for a single match. :(

Also, is there any reason to try and build Ken's V gauge with his V-skill? I can get some use out of the dash but the kick seems useless. Is there any strategies for it or should I just ignore it?

you play just as ken? maybe give some other characters a shot, you might find someone that clicks with your style and the combos will be a lil easier then

You shouldn't be waiting 10 minutes for a match, might need to forward ports or dmz your router.

I've experimented with a few characters (all in training) but Ken's the one I feel fits me best. I just don't play fighting games online too much and I think i'm just getting used to that. I might try a bit more with Cammy though. She was a pretty close second to Ken and at the very least I like her v-skill a lot more.

Yeah, that's what I figured. It was only putting me up against others from Australia, so there's probably something up with my Internet that's not making it friendly to overseas players.

Ok so I spent the entire weekend playing my friend who is very solid(top128 at evo last year, makes it out of pools almost ever year. Top 32 in SFxT one year) and he is maining Laura. Ryu vs Laura seems pretty even to me. EX bolt threatens enough that you can't be very careless with Ryu since maintaining good spacing its entirely able to be done on reaction(you should have like a 1/3 of a second to do it if you are just outside of normal ranges its not hard). Laura has really decent normals, I don't even think Chun out footsies here very hard once Laura gets meter, you get counterhit once and eat buffered bolt or a crush counter. Just my 2 cents

I would trust your friend. I mean, as I've said before, the reason I play Laura is to learn as much about the game as I can ahead of Boxer coming out and then my headbutt super rampage beginning. (Oh god please let that still be a thing)

In any case, my issue on Laura vs. Ryu is that without jumping like a moron, you're resigned to take a tonne of chip damage just trying to even get in near to Ryu for your EX bolt counterhit setups. Broadly speaking you're going to either be getting counterhit Cr. MK in which case you're almost certainly already buffering LP bolt shoulder, which is fine and leads to tricks (Cr. MP/normal throw/command grab), but tricks are also beaten by Ryu mashing out an LP DP as quickly as possible. It's dangerous for a Ryu to do that, but if someone's willing to I'm almost certainly taking a chunk of damage and my setups are immediately blunted because I've now got to add blocking to my options. (This is because Laura's jabs are loving terrible and lead to absolutely nothing)

I like Laura's normals, sure, but she has a bunch of meh ones and then Cr. MK and St. HK which are outstanding. I think better players should be able to hedge for that relatively well? But what do I know.

signalnoise posted:

I'm gonna need specifics. Mika can put anyone in the corner from the middle of the map off forward mp

A few reasons, Laura's EX shoulder can put her on either side of her opponent, so if you save meter you always always have an emergency button to get out the corner. Secondly, Laura's big punish (Fr. HP, HP xx QCF HP) takes her halfway across the stage in the direction she's facing. Thirdly because Mika's normals suck donkey balls and Laura's normals are decent. Conversely, when Laura corners Mika, her Fireball/DP game makes it a nightmare for Mika to get out unless you're stupid enough to get into command grab range without frame advantage. (Spoilers, I do, all the time)

In SF5 in its current state, chances are you'll be pushing aaaallll of that lag over on your opponent. You'll have a smooth and easy match, while the opponent lives in a fighting game rendition of jacob's ladder where everything violently spasms.

WHOOSH
When you get someone who is just laggy enough that they can do their abilities in literally half the time it takes normally, it's really kinda angering. I just got manhandled by a Ryu whose fireball was practically instant, where pretty tame combos were literally just clipping through him past the first hit.

I'm getting clearly better(I'm actually getting close in most of my matches now), but drat if that poo poo isn't angering. I should probably filter for connection status.

Is there a way to filter Lobbies by connection status?

I will settle for looking at the bars before joining the lobby. I might just be oblivious if this is already there, but normally I have to go in, check the thing on the left, then log out if it's not a good one.

Try http://x360ce.com/

Grab the 64 bit version specifically for Street Fighter V.

- Plug in your stick.
- Open the program. Create whatever files it needs to create.
- Setup buttons one by one.

OR

If you want to setup buttons from the net.
- Click "Controller Settings"
- Click the middle tab underneath, "Most popular settings for my controllers"
- Double click one of those to load them. Check if the inputs are correct. If not, pick a different profile.

- Once you're happy with your button setup, hit save. You should now have two new files, xinput1_3.dll and x360ce.ini. Copy and paste these into the game launcher directory, in this case being :
__(folder where game is stored)__\steamapps\common\StreetFighterV\Binaries\Win64

The correct directory is the one with StreetFighterV.exe

That's it! It looks long but this process is pretty fast.

EDIT: Turns out the site is down I think, but the Github should do just fine: https://github.com/x360ce/x360ce
