Despite the fact that there is a new Tired video, and a new Shane Oneill part...this is actually the video you should watch: Tom Knox's "Vase" Part: https://youtu.be/unjQF2m7Jss Tom just made London/uk look skateable. The start and end tricks here are pure mind over matter plowing into spots that have no business being looked at as spots.

So I cleaned my bearings for the first time a bit ago according to some guide online. I also re-greased them, and now they spin slower than they did before. Did I just add too much grease or does it normally take some riding for them to break in again?

According to Thrasher they either did the trip, or at least got so far into it they had confirmed teams and guest spots.....aaaaaand then nothing, and no mention of why. My working theory is that one of the challenges developed into the malheur occupation under assumed names and they're trying to figure a way out without losing the points.

Man oh man, I bought a longboard about a month ago and today this tiny rear end twig wrecked me bad while I was out cruising around. It was almost like slipping on a banana peel and had the end result of landing HARD on my tailbone. I've only fallen 2 or 3 times prior to this but they were pretty minor, this one had me walking it off for a good while and gobbling some ibuprofen once I limped my rear end back home. I never would have imagined how much of a menace pebbles and twigs are! Been having a ton of fun otherwise though, going from feeling like I'm walking a tightrope to where I am today (barely competent) has been a good experience.

For cruising to work how tight do I want my trucks? Also how do you stop on a normal board?

Loose, so you can turn. Stop by dragging your rear foot to slow down.

tighter trucks seems to be easier for people getting started but trucks that are a bit looser are more fun once your comfortable. I'd tighten them up a bit. You can also stop by front side power sliding

If they're so loose they're floppy and sketchy, then tighten them up a bit. Alternative would be to swap bushings. If they're loose enough that they're a bit floppy then that could give you a firmer lean without cutting your ability to turn. Bushings do wear out over time as well, lose some of their rebound and just start to degrade. Slightly softer bushings that are a bit tighter, or harder bushings at the same tightness could help. Softer top, hard bottom is also pretty common on longboards, dunno if anyone bothers doing it on street decks since I don't think most people even change bushings ever. I highly doubt you'll get speed wobbles on a street deck.

Hey, let's talk trucks. Just attached a new pair of Ace 03s this morning, gonna break them in tonight. I have some experience of the whole range (Tracker E-Clips anyone?!), although before Aces I had Indys and Thunders for a long while. Aces require some aftermarket care (Bones bushings, replacement pivot cups), but when that's done, they really turn snappy. Had 44s before, wanted to lower my board a bit, so let's see.

Zigmidge posted:backside for For sure! naig posted:Hey, let's talk trucks. With the Ace 44's I found that the Bones bushings are not tall enough and the king pin sticks out too much with them. I've been using the stock Ace bushings for a couple of years now. I just replaced the pivot cups with stock and put in new king pins because they and the king pin nuts were ground down too far and things were about to come apart. I should probably just have gotten new trucks but I want to see the axle come through on these. edit: it was funny when I took one of the trucks apart, the king pin had a little play in it where it fits in the base so it wiggled a little. I had probably been riding it like for months.

I had probably been riding it like for months. It seems Ace has had some production problems, and the new 44s (and upwards) have wider V in hanger, probably because of bending. Did not experience that with my 44s, though.

I've never managed to ride a truck until the kingpins got sloppy, but its probably because I'd wind up bending them or just otherwise replacing them before they got the chance. And that's on downhill boards! I have managed to bend a kingpin once though, and I've broken one. No idea how those even happened. CNC trucks loving own for downhill and freeride stuff though. Can't see myself bending a set of those, but I don't have any anymore. I had some Surf Rodz (dumb company name, great products) that used helicoil inserts in the hanger and baseplate that the axles and kingpin threaded into, rather than nuts. Cool system, very solid. I wound up selling them, though in hindsight I wish I hadn't. I'd be a little worried about long-term durability with them but everything was replaceable in individual parts. Helicoil issue? Get a new hanger/axle. They rode so well I would've just dealt with it even if they did happen to break somehow. I don't really skate very often anymore but when I do think about it, I think I miss my slalom board the most. Not because of actually slaying cones, but just because they are amazingly fun boards to cruise and rip around the neighborhood on, and bombing smaller hills on one is super fun. Do you not have blown out kingpin holes in your hangers? All my cast longboard trucks look like worn out pornstars and it happens relatively quickly - I guess cranking out powerslides works those more than my street trucks? e: And skate more ffs

# ? Feb 24, 2016 18:33 |

The kingpin hole in the hanger will open up a bit by the time they start to bend, yeah. Doesn't really affect the ride the way a wobbly kingpin would though.. I'd certainly not want to try riding downhill with even a little bit of that slop.

I went through a period of time where it seemed like I couldn't skate without breaking a kingpin. I hadn't changed my setup or the kind of riding I was doing, but I probably went through five of them in as many weeks. Haven't broken one since.

Longboarding isn't skating unless you're doing down hill. That person is probably breaking trucks cause he keeps picking up his board to go across cross walks and then putting it down again. Jaws ollied down 25 stairs and didn't break his trucks.
