Dead Man’s Band

:laffo:

When I first read Walden in 2014, it had a profound impact on me. Having gone through a period of career burnout followed by radical lifestyle change, I could see that Thoreau's ideas around simplicity, consumerism, and busyness had an uncanny relevance to the challenges we face today. I shared my enthusiasm for the book with anyone willing to listen. But I kept having to couch my recommendations: “This is an incredible book, but the 19th century language is hard to digest at times. But stick with it, and you’ll be glad you did!” This situation bothered me. I didn't want to keep telling people they should read Walden – 'BUT' ...

I always liked the idea of being "a mile from any neighbor".

I kinda flipped through it and remember a part where he tallies up his money (a few bucks) versus his farmer neighbor's income minus expenses and debt and grimly concluded that with a few bucks in his pocket and having done basically nothing (well, no "work" and produced no products etc), he actually "made" more than his neighbor did.

i read walden. it's a good book but i deffo got the feeling that he was full of poo poo at points. sorta like notes from underground, where you can tell the person is taking an extreme viewpoint specifically to challenge/alienate readers

skimmed through the ks and they are at least self-aware about this and are instead trying to make a campy comedy/horror that references the first movie

idk if they'll pull off anything interesting doing that but i wish them luck. would not say this if they were trying to be true to the original, crow t. robot had the best capsule summary of that monstrosity i can think of: "Joel, this is gonna turn into a snuff film, isn't it?"
