get a dog, I now look and sound slightly less silly when I'm chattering away to myself by adding 'What do you think, Wrags?' she's very helpful and makes noises and looks interested for me (in the hope that she'll get some food...)

this this this this this this this this

I'm one of those people who likes pleasantries; I don't revel in them or anything and would rather have a real conversation obviously, but it puts me quite off my stride if someone doesn't do the basic hellos, thankyous, excuse mes, etc. A lot of my housemates frequently don't and it never fails to make my day that tiny bit worse.

Yeah no, Party Boat is one of the least weird people I've ever met...I guess that's the weirdest thing about him?

re: dogs: I know they're not possible for everyone, and I'm sorry your lives aren't punctuated by a dog whining at you before 6am with demands for OUTSIDE and FOOD, and that your bedding is not enriched with the scent of wet dog, and you don't have to save money on the off chance your dog breaks and needs a vet on a weekend...

I'm really not selling the whole dog ownership here am I?

I have almost recovered from going to Aberdeen and probably not getting a job. I met the person interviewing after me and she was on first name terms with half the staff.

I'm determined to get a dog sometime in the next few years and may die if I don't, but I don't know what to do about this problem without hiring a dog walker that the mutt will end up liking more than me

Sort of unironically this, I have 3 and usually can arrange so that we have a dogsitter popping by for at least an hr, but on occasion they've been left for the full 9hr work day Inc commute and they're fine
