So I've made it to The Battle of Kaer Morhen Quest. I have a feeling things are going to end badly. But finding Ciri right before that... Jesus. Compare Geralt's emotional state and expressions in that scene to Mass Effect 3's "See child explode, sad face and look away". There's no comparison.

I finally finished this game, after clocking 91 hours on it, according to steam. This was with only half-assing and ignoring most of the ?s and having zero interest in gwent.

I just finished my first run with 120 hours but I left a lot of ?s and didn't do all of the side quests. Time for ng+! Although I did just do the cat and the wolf quest, and I let the guy live and I'm glad I did because Geralt's "I'm the Butcher of Blaviken" line was pretty spot-on.

I found just reloading fixed the problem. It seemed to happen when i was crouching and then changed elvations. What if another witcher game you played as a Sorceress? You could be young and have to seek out Yenn or Triss or any of the others. There could still be melee combat, but you'd could have some kind of spell customization options. I just want to explore the world of the Witcher some more. It's probably the most fully realized fantasy world in an RPG. You know, with the current focus on open world games and their success, i'm surprised there isn't a big, open world D&D RPG in the works.

You might for example put together a spell that teleports you a short distance and detonates any gunpowder* within 15 yards but leaves you extra-vulnerable to damage for a short period, then use it to skip behind enemies and stab them in the back while disabling ranged enemies so they can't shoot you as you do that. * the time frame has advanced 50 years or so.

I think moving the game ahead so its more early enlightment would be interesting. Something I like about Witcher is there seems to be some form of Culture, which barely gets hinted at in most games, like you get bards in DA and Skyrim, but there are plays and fiction novels and games and all kinds of stuff. Could easily be that Empress Ciri's rule brought about a new golden age, with peace and prosparity, but oh no somethings causing it to unravel! Suddenly Sorceresses and other magic users are being persecuted again (though not with any sanction). You're a young sorceress who escapes an angry mob who kills her mentor and some others, and at first you just have to make your way somewhere, and from there it branches out.

Just finished Novigrad on Death March at level 19-ish. The game gets a lot easier now that I can wear new Witcher gear every 2-3 levels. Other than having to eat tons of baked potatoes, Death March is fairly manageable.

I don't think I'll keep going on with the new game +. At level 39 everything is so low level for me It's not actually fun. Maybe it will pick up after I get through the Velen part, but right now with Iris and Venom Viper Blade slices through everything.

so I guess you're not supposed to be able to apply oils during combat? I'm sorry officer, I didn't know I couldn't do that maybe this counterbalances, somewhat, the fact that 60% of the character skill tree is broken or useless

I've been playing recently with a steam controller on the PC (the game actually noticed it and had button prompts made for it holy poo poo) and I have been able to apply blade oils even during combat which I wasn't able to do with a controller before so I'm fairly certain it's intentional now. Also Bear or Wolven School gear? I'm doing a mostly alchemy build this time. E: nevermind. Gonna use ursine because I've already done a playthrough with Wolven. cmykJester fucked around with this message at 06:01 on Mar 13, 2016 |

I'm sitting here thinking over the battle of kaer more and comparing it to the way bioware did mass effect 2s suicide mission or dragon age awakening's siege. I think the big difference is that kaer morhen is doomed from the start unlike the other games. It's only ciri's intervention that prevents a one sided massacre. It'd hard to make a "wrong' decision such as he armory or the walls when it's hopeless. Whereas mass effect punishes you for not being prepared or Maki the right choices.

So I've finally finished reading all of the books, and I'm kinda surprised people thought (in various places) that the Wild Hunt and particularly Eredin was retconned/misrepresented in the game. (Book Spoilers - Lady of the Lake) They are barely in the books to begin with, and the chapters that they are in consist of Ciri's imprisonment/escape and the Elven King not being able to get it up for a 16/17 year old jailbait. Eredin in particular is in like 3 scenes, where he is introduced, offered an elven viagra to Ciri, and failed to best a teenage girl on a boat. I mean sure he's practical and seemingly brutally honest to Ciri in that one dialog they had over the viagra offering, as opposed to Avallach, but that's pretty much the his whole characterization and the game doesn't override that. In fact if you don't count the "future blurbs" in between the chapters, which give quick glimpses to times after the books, and the obvious retcon of Geralt's/Yennefer's death, the games feel like quite a natural extension of the books. They interpret the world and characters exceptionally well for something that carries a previously written work to another media (though my opinion maybe colored like that because I've read the source material after the fact, but meh). I wasn't expecting that. Now Blood and Wine can't come soon enough, and we need a brothel management simulator as a better money sink than runecrafting in it to honor a certain characters last words.

You know, I had seen that Shani gets drunk and pukes during that, but I didn't get that scene at all. I guess I did it the "right" way. And I figured that the choices during Kaer Moredon just dictated what scenes or what route the battle was going to go in, not on anything about who lives or dies. I like that Keira and Lambert go off together. And Scarface is just left alone, at least in my ending. I guess how you get Witcher Ciri (which I guess implies that the Witcher Orders are going to be resurrected?) is not taking her to see her father before doing the end game stuff?
