We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.
I'm looking forward to the extra-hard ISO-Compliant Professional mode, where health and safety has gone through each area in advance and corrected problems. "You really can't store rat poison in a food preparation area." "These long lines of waist-high stacks of equipment are a fire evacuation hazard." Each "episode", as far as I know, is just one big level. This first batch is pretty much the only thing that will be a batch, since they threw in the training stuff from beta.

I fixed my performance, turns out Nvidia actually fixed their garbage drivers and now they're necessary for it to run decently on a midrange system. DX12 runs super great on very high settings but has a real issue with hitching every minute or two and is really prone to crashing and load times seem worse too for some reason??? DX11 is acceptable for now with LODs turned down, but here's hoping DX12 mode gets patched so I can work those extra FX chip cores and feel like I have an actually decent CPU.

I like the idea of the unlock progression but its execution leaves something to be desired. I like naturally learning the level and doing crazy stuff of my own volition, so I don't look at the feats or opportunities, but then I kinda have to, because unlocking even more freedom of choice requires doing those challenges. There's no real reason to care about score right now outside of largely-meaningless leaderboards, so i feel like they could have used score as an unlock system and just given extra for completed challenges.

I also miss newspapers and notoriety from BM, because as janky as those were, they were still a really neat way to feel like there was actual post-mission reactivity to your actions outside of arbitrary videogame-rear end scoring.

But hey, I exited my first true assassination by dressing as a vampire magician to go incognito after blowing my cover and killed myself by standing in a puddle of water while going "I wonder why this prompt lets me expose this wire here", so this game's still pretty good so far.

Bouncing quarters off of dudes' booties to interrupt scripted conversations might be my new favourite thing to do, next to finding any excuse to use the duck.

Yeah. It's pretty hilarious. I figured there was a way to kick his rear end and hide his body, but there's no container to dump it in.

theres literally a thing that rewards you for showing it, its just that you gotta go around the back of the party area and door with two guards you show the invitation, then you gotta show it again before the stairs just cause. and before you get to the third floor that way you get frisked, and if you have a gun, you immediately become hostile. i mean i guess the first level of contracts had guards that would do that too so not all is bad right???

You don't need a disguise. If you go outside the bar/lounge area there's another side entrance near the back with guards who check for the invitation

Man, I'm not sure why they didn't bring back weapon customization and the sniper briefcase, I miss the sick feeling from blood money of fixing the sniper rifle together while by a window in a dark room.

Other than that though, the game is great, the Paris level is huge and very detailed.

This game is really cool. I actually love the release model they are trying out, and if Street Fighter V was smart they would have done something similar (should have released like a "tournament edition" for $30, then when they added story mode release it as a $30 DLC).

I also really like the opportunities system. I've only played one other Hitman game, and that was like 10 years ago, so the game giving me a "guided tour" so to speak of the levels is a nice feature. Usually I'm pretty boring with sandboxy games and just play to complete the objectives, but I actually want to keep playing the levels to try out new ideas and discover new things.

Good job Square, the amount of games I have and will be buying of yours is starting to remind me of the late 90's early 00's :allears:

I think I accidentally found this while desperately running away from my botched first assassination, since the vampire magician doesn't seem like they'd be able to get around much. Still let me get away scot-free by getting spotted trespassing and letting them escort me out of the building.

My first genuine hit ended with stealing a helicopter as a vampire magician, so this game has something going for it, and thankfully seems to be avoiding the self-serious gore fetishism that the creepier fans want so bad. There's already some pretty brutal poo poo with the animations and sound design, they just cooled it on the overdone blood textures from Absolution and went for a more understated look.

It sucks that peeps are weird creepers about this stuff, because I totally get why wacky video game violence and gore can be fun, I've just gradually learned that people who talk about or focus on it at length tend to be colossal creeps who don't know when to stop creepin'.

Here's the secret: IOI has never known what the gently caress they're doing, have mostly produced poo poo, and the good poo poo they made was largely just small moments of clarity in a sea of garbage. Blood Money was the closest thing to being consistently decent, and it still had a shitload of massive problems, not the least of which being introducing the game with an ugly linear level about Danish people wearing virtual blackface.

Also, the melee thing seems intentional. It's pretty hokey, but I guess the idea is that, if you don't want them to compromise your disguise, you have to risk subduing them. Not graceful design, but it's kinda whatever. The other thing seems like a delayed AI trigger or something, which does happen way more often than it ought to, and in general the dialogue system seems pretty borked so idk.

I loved assembling that sniper rifle, so I went through each stage looking for a practical reason to use it. The only stage I found where you can use the sniper rifle to get silent assassin and it isn't more difficult than fiber wire or silenced pistol is House of Cards. From the German guy's apartment you can snipe the person who inspects the package through his window. You may or may not also be able to snipe the person you meet when you drop off the package (Mohammad Bin Faisal Al-Khalifa according to Hitman wiki!), I always fiber wired him. I think you had to save the sniping for last, or it would screw up the trade.

You could snipe the Shiek from the balcony looking down on the rear outside area. He would walk out here to take a phone call at some point. And I think the seller could also be shot in his hotel room same as the inspector.

It was hard to get silent assassin on most others with the sniper rifle though. It was easy to use for no witnesses but generally always left the body being detected.

Blood Money was so good in letting you try out loads of different playstyles. I got Absolution recently in the sales forgetting how it was received and it has been a disappointment. The scoring system seems to penalise you for trying styles besides Silent Assassin.
It has got me back into Blood Money again. I just completed the game trying a much more violent play through than I would usually. Finally made use of the silent M4 and completed a series of silent blood baths.

So I just finished the first Sarjeevo Six mission where I had to kill the Security Chief in the Paris mission, it's almost comically easy to get silent assassin if you are willing to wait around for a while for the guy to walk from the top of the building down to the security room in the basement kitchen area.

I don't know, gore in video games ultimately acts as a feedback mechanism to show that you're doing damage. I don't think they get their dicks hard on it, they just want more visual feedback.

the problem with the inspector was that someone eventually came into that room to check up on him, so you had to scramble to the escape point before you got rumbled. This even happened if you pulled the fire alarm, someone would eventually walk in wondering why he wasn't running out with the rest of them

Is there a limited timeframe for meeting Dahlia as Helmut? Because I grabbed the disguise and did the runway walk, but after going upstairs Dahlia just does her rounds and ignores me completely. I wound up just going out to the lighting rig to drop it on Viktor, choked out Dahlia's personal guard as she was leaving the waiting room, and then when Dahlia came back alone strangled her. In all it was messy and I killed enough non-targets to give me a final score of 0.

That sounds pretty handy with the Sheikh there, I grabbed the Helmut disguise and while it's a free pass to the whole map I can't get an "in" with Dahlia, she just kinda wanders around to some set locations and doesn't offer me any openings to take her out.

If you trail Helmut into that outside area, he will call Dahlia to arrange a meeting (I think it's the second phone call he makes). If you kill/incapacitate him, you need to pick up his phone and call her back with it to get details on the actual meeting location. After doing a run on the catwalk, you'll be summoned to a private room with her upstairs where she will explain Helmut's mission to you. I garroted her and dumped her in the closet in that room after she was done talking to me and was getting up to leave. I don't remember if she led me into the adjacent room from the big meeting room, but I may have gone in first and then she followed me. Afterwards, I just walked out and left and then a few minutes later the loving servers kicked me, so I don't know if I even got the accomplishment.

Going to run some errands, take the weekend car out for a spin, pick up a six-pack, and then claim the TV as mine for the rest of the day/evening while I drink beer, kill people, and hope that the servers don't poo poo the bed on me while I'm trying to accomplish those goals.

Ah okay. On a previous save I called Dahlia but then I walked the catwalk too late and Viktor was already saying the closing remarks. Then on my latest run I did the catwalk properly but forgot to call Dahlia beforehand. I didn't know the phonecall mattered.

My trip report:

Wanted to play the hell out of the prologue missions (again) to get all the achievements and whatnot. I really appreciated the escalation contracts, which forced me to attack the maps in a completely different way. Very refreshing! Logged about five hours in the prologue alone. Got everything there, so I went to load the Paris level (on DX11)…and the game crashed. Changed all my graphics settings to low…game still crashes. Waited a day to try again…game still crashes, and did a number to Windows, too. Had to reset my fairly high-end PC.

It's a really good game. Too bad about all the technical problems, though. However, technical problems can be fixed—eventually. I'm just happy the core game experience is very solid, and very fun. Ain't nothing would be able to fix that if they had hosed that up, which I'm glad that they haven't.
