Music tonalities are way different. AC/DC values a basic beat, a strong riff, and screeching guitar solos. Foo Fighters are more layered and melodic in comparison. Pearl Jam and Nirvana get regular rotation on classic rock stations. It's all dad Rock. Their important records were all made 25 years ago. The local hard rock radio station round here has a new billboard up with pictures of 3 musicians: Steven Tyler, angus young, and Dave grohl. They've been the same radio format for 30 years.

Ehhh, I think you guys are really overthinking it. AC/DC plays arenas, it's not like their audience is filled with rough customers. At the most recent Chicago show, I definitely saw multiple people in Foo Fighters shirts. AC/DC is a band that has long transcended its original audience niche.

There are bikers and truckers and jocks and cops at foo fighters concerts. It's the same arena rock audience. Th idea that the foo fighters is some cerebral high concept rock music is really funny though.

If Brian truly can't tour anymore, they should just hang it up and retire (as much as it kills me to say that). It's a miracle they pulled off a lead singer change back in 1980 when we lost arguably the greatest front man of all-time, but at this point, they've had a really awesome run, and I couldn't think of a single person that would fit that bill. Using Van Halen as an example: Roth was great, Hagar was good, but the last thing AC/DC needs is a Gary Cherone (not comparing Dave Grohl, just making a general example). I'm not interested in seeing them go into self-parody. Charles Martel fucked around with this message at 23:24 on Mar 13, 2016 |

Yes AC/DC is older and naturally has older and grizzlier fans on average but there's nothing radically different or more thought provoking about Foo Fighters, its just dad rock for a slightly younger generation of dads. I saw Paul Rodgers and Bad Company a few years back, and drat if Paul Rodgers' voice wasn't one of the better voices I've seen live ever. I don't quite know why they chose him for Queen, but in retrospect if I'd have known how strong it was, I would have seen it. But yeah, he's absolutely no Freddie. I feel like they're going to finish up this tour with another vocalist for contractual obligation reasons, and then hang it up.

By "thinking", I don't mean that Foo Fighters songs have super deep meanings, just that they're relatively more complex musically. AC/DC is the rock equivalent of a jackhammer yelling about sex and booze, while Foo Fighters are more like a street cleaner yelling about life problems.

Here's something interesting...Jim Breuer, a comedian/musician who's a friend of Brian's (see videos below), has said on his podcast that Brian told him his hearing isn't the main reason he's out of the band, Angus is: http://www.cantonrep.com/entertainment/20160315/acdcs-johnson-kicked-to-curb http://www.blogtalkradio.com/jimbreuerspodcast/2016/03/14/jim-breuers-the-metal-in-me-episode-13-mark-tremonti https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/jim-breuers-podcast/id1026284774?mt=2 Some dude over at acdcfans.net says: quote:Jim Breuer is true 100% dude. Given how Brian has been treated, and the fact that they're good friends, there's no doubt in my mind that Brian gave him the okay to go public about this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBXELY6hrRU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QqzDy0rloI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmfnDowXH1k

http://exclaim.ca/music/article/has_brian_johnson_been_kicked_out_of_ac_dc I don't know. I'm not making any judgments until Angus speaks up because all of this just doesn't add up. Immediately kicking your lead singer of 36 years because he has an issue with his hearing now? Come on. I know it's becoming old hat 'round these parts, but I'm really glad I got to see them when I did; Black Ice tour with Rudd and Malcolm and last year with Slade and Stevie. Edit: quote:**UPDATE**: Earlier today (Tuesday, March 15), Jim Breuer posted the following statement on his Facebook page: "I have seen some stories circulating about my podcast. As a friend, I saw Brian withdrawn for the first time in my life. He's not a quitter, he seemed hurt by the situation of being between a rock and a hard place. I spoke as a true fan and friend, simply venting as if he was a brother of mine. I hope to see him rock out one more time. You have to remember I'm a comedian & a storyteller. I definitely exaggerate and sometimes I get a little carried away!! And this was one of those times!" Indeed, in a series of Facebook posts, Jim Breuer has retracted his statements (scroll down): http://ultimateclassicrock.com/brian-johnson-acdc-kicked-to-curb/ The way he spoke, he sure as hell seemed to be quoting Brian...if there truly isn't a shred of truth in that podcast, I hope his career burns to the ground.

If AC/DC does try to get a replacement it probably will be someone more popular. It's weird though because they could grab the singer from Exodus or Overkill and get that same weird snarly voice.

Also wouldn't this interfere with the big GnR Reunion tour? I mean, I've heard that everyone loving hates each other so it was probably a precarious situation that was going to end early like the Van Halen reunion back in 2012, but still.

Kinda sad how Angus seems intent on cratering the band's legacy at the finish line here, especially if he cut Brian against his wishes. One of the great things about AC/DC is that they seemed like they were above this type of rockstar ego jackassery, at least on the surface.

I'd be stoked to see Axl singing with AC/DC, so this is pretty much the best possible outcome for me. Still, it'd probably be classier just to hang it up at this point, but I'd be lying if I said this isn't something I'd enjoy seeing.

At the same time, if they're contractually obligated to fill the dates, it might be cheaper to throw a few million dollars at Axl for 10 gigs than it would be to cancel the shows altogether and face lawsuits But optimally, yeah, wait until Brian can do one final show and have it be a giant farewell gig at Wembley Stadium or something
