WHy do people make the argument that Cuba is anything near as bad as some of the other places we regularly interact with?

Because other people put words in their mouth, is my guess!

As far as an argument I didn't make goes it's really stupid and I agree with your sentiment. However this is suffering the U.S. takes an active hand in perpetuating and the geopolitical rationale, flimsy as it was even 60 years ago, is REALLY stupid today.

So in conclusion we can care about multiple things at once! Amazing.

It seemed that your argument was appealing to the human rights of cubans, i wanted to know why this argument isn't applied to all relationships. It seemed that you were saying that people needed to be made aware of the suffering of cubans, but in support of the embargo. Now that I am re-reading it seems you are saying that it is stupid to continue the embargo as it was the cause of suffering for the people of cuba, which i agree with. The lifting of the Embargo should go a long way in improving the lives of cubans. Sorry for my lovely reading comprehension.

Why is the establishment Republican party uniting behind a hated rear end in a top hat like Cruz and not a bog-standard turd like Kasich?

It's not just about the political class (who hate Cruz) it's about the donor class. Trump has his own money and his own media apparatus. Big time donors like the Kochs hate that because they have less leverage.

The political class will fall in line with the demands of the donor class, no matter how much they hate Cruz.

That's all coupled with "the devil you know" style triangulation. They hate Cruz but he's a known entity. Trump is a big question mark.

Man I hope some really sick poo poo comes out about the campaign manager. Like that he sent dick pics to reporters or something.

Literally everything about Trump's campaign seems almost designed to fall flat on its face in a general election.

My dad texted me a while back asking if anything new had developed in Syria, and I texted back that picture of a (n Iranian provided?) T-62 fighting alongside an export model Abrams. He replied with a photo of his hand holding a glass of whiskey held in front of a TV playing Big Trouble in Little China.

I feel like there's a powerful metaphor in here for life in the post cold war, mass media age, though that might just be a headache coming on.
Syria really is amazing for completely flipping the table over and leading to so many weird alliances and situations. This go around the US is the one backing the socialists to stop the crazy religious fuckers, which is a rather far cry from our Cold War days. We also have more of a problem with our NATO ally Turkey than we do our old Cold War enemy Russia, with Russia being rather happy with US support for Kurdish forces.

Tell me more about that Clinton landslide.

quote:

Half of all voters said they would be scared if Mr. Trump were elected president, and another 19 percent said they would be concerned. Mrs. Clinton does not fare much better: Thirty-five percent of all voters said they would be scared if Mrs. Clinton won in November, and 21 percent said they would be concerned.
