If you're in the Phoenix area look up the bar, The Grid. The owner is a huge retro/synth head and has brought in acts like Teeel, Future Holotape, Night Club, Dress 2 Kill, Dance with the Dead, Syntax, etc. He's working on bringing in some of the bigger acts and attempting to get some of the big european guys to come over. They also stream most of their live shows. https://www.twitch.tv/thegridtv/profile The plan for the future is to use contacts in LA and Portland to create a small tour circuit allowing the owners of multiple venues to split the cost of bringing in the european acts and giving them multiple places to perform at. Supposedly this upcoming LA show is a tiny start in the grand plans.

Aside from the live shows, most nights, depending on who's working, they regularly run synth playlists or often bring in DJ's to run synthwave/retro themed nights.

Yeah I'm doing LA for sure. Dwtd actually did a show in San Francisco first. Hard to tell but it looked like a packed house. Granted their venue was a well known lounge

Soundcloud maybe? I haven't done it myself, bandcamp is nice because by default it will let me multitask on ios though I dont know if you are allowed to make custom playlists

I use the SoundCloud app on Android but the problem is when bands I follow post music they like and I don't, my feed gets cluttered with crap I don't want to listen to. Besides saving music on my phone to effectively make my own playlist I've not found a better way to go about it.

It's like anything, different artists have different signature sounds. This music is all about hitting good 'pulses' that feel just right for me, and this means that music without lyrics is usually more liked by me but maybe I have audio autism and don't like people's voices?

That's what gives New Retro Wave that distinctive sound, it's that half-remembered impression of the 80's that mostly comes from wandering around malls with your mom and seeing people wearing slightly outdated clothes or hearing radio stations playing the previous decade's big hits, or watching late-night premium channels showing movies with nudity and fast cars and guys with permed mullets. Then you believe that that's what the 80's were really like, and you romanticize and fetishize the "coolness" and make a bunch of John Carpenter-sounding music to go along with the secondhand images of the 80's in your head.

Vaporwave is basically that too except replace everything I said about the 80's with stuff from the 90's like the early internet, pastel colors and corporate muzak.
