Crazy how there isn't a single world class player on the England team. They're a dying nation and team in decline much like Scotland 20ish years ago. Pretty soon England will be struggling to beat teams like Faroe Islands.

Lol Rooney shouldn't even be in the squad.

Teams have won Euro without having any world class players- you just have to play to your strengths. I think England could win but I don't think Hodgson has the know how or the balls to do that.

I'm interested in your ideas, what does hodgson need to do that he doesn't have the skills or balls to achieve?

I think he'll try play possession football with Rooney in the team. That's fine against the minnows that England played in the qualifiers but as soon as they play Spain, Germany (not in a friendly) or France they'll struggle.

I think they're better off playing counter attacking football with players in actual form.

Hart
Clyne - Cahill - Smalling - Rose
Henderson - Dier
Lallana - Alli - Vardy
Kane

Or swap out Vardy for Wellback or Sterling and bring him on to run at tired legs or chase the game.

That for me is a team that has a lot of pace and work rate and almost everyone is in form and playing in the right position.

Yeah it's kinda hard to warrant his inclusion but he does a lot of the dirty work in midfield and is pretty disciplined. I think if Wilshere was fit and playing he'd be the one to sit out but he's dead and there aren't that many better options.

Yugoslavian style? Of course not.
It has to be Zlatan-style.

Mark Noble should be in that midfield

Noble and Drinkwater are both decent but Henderson is far more mobile than both and I think that's where England's strength lies.

you want to play counter-attacking football without either of the two English midfielders actually playing that role to a high level, and instead want to play Hendo because Pace?

fwiw I disagree and think there's no way Henderson is "more mobile" than Drinkwater, who covers everywhere on the pitch and can actually pass

Jack Cork should be going as backup to Dier because he's a nice lad who tries hard and specialises in that exact job unlike international holding midfielders Jack Wilshere, Ross Barkley and Jonjo Shelvey.

Not a fan of Rose and though I love Hendo, he's out of form and Drinky deserves it. Also Lallana has to start for me

It's not like Cahill is going to stop anything - at least Stones can carry the ball but the difference between the two is marginal in attack and defence

I sort of get why it might be good to do tricks and take stupid risks as a young centre forward but as a CB?? And ppl say Oh he's young he'll learn but frankly I'd rather have a disciplined no nonsense CB who occasionally scores headers and is racist.

That partially why I'd prefer Bertrand over Rose as he's a bit more solid defensively I feel (might be wrong), defence clearly needs the support but Dier should help as well

Cahill doesn't regularly create chances for the opposition when put under pressure.

Stones has showed no signs of learning so far. In 5 years we'll look back at his inclusion in the England team and laugh.

Cahill was hilariously clowned on for the Gomez goal, Stones was gash against the Dutch. Smalling can bring the ball out of defence just fine, so Smalling + whichever Big Unit is in the best form.

"Mobility" is a ridiculous term to throw around for me tbh. Noble and Drinkwater actually play a holding role in counter attacking sides. Either alongside Dier is probably the best midfield pair.
