windows lets me use three monitors with my t530, linux can't even get 2 working all the time, once in a while it'll detect a second one but not often.

having to use bumblebee optimus nvidia drivers doesn't help

I got everything working the way I liked it and installed fglrx according to a set of instructions that involved patching the driver and downgrading the X server and it broke again in exactly the same way

I'm switching to ubuntu

fglrx is poo poo, ati/amd graphics suck rear end in linux

even if you managed to get it to run without crashing it's still unbearably slow

because the consumer device has good hardware, i.e. intel and maybe nvidia if you need a top-class gpu?

(unless it's android or whatever, in which case the vendor controls both hardware and os and is responsible for making them work together)

I don't give a poo poo about 3D graphics.

then don't loving install fglrx, it's the only things its good at. it sucks at 2D.

Tankakern
Jul 25, 2007

the opensource amd gpu drivers are actually best at everything else than 3D, and even with 3D it's often good enough. fglrx is only for ~hardcore linux gaming~ or CAD

a worthy goal

shouldn't be all that difficult to put a theme together yourself either, the entire look of the Mac's windows and controls, until MacOS 8, was created programmatically rather than by composing assets

if you can also get a real menu bar working I will switch to your theme on my Linux systems, in all seriousness
